The other day I had buzzed about the Marvel Super Squad Video Game and costumes for Halloween. Well, now I have something adorable to show you – my kids dressed as Captain American and Spiderman! The Mom Buzz received both costumes to review and they were thrilled when they arrived! Immediately they wanted to put them on, but being a mom I made them wait. (Mean!) Actually, I just wanted a chance to clean the house before they put them on because I knew what would happen. Without a doubt they would be rolling on the floor and doing super hero moves, and I didn’t want them to trip on any toys laying around.
My little one immediately claimed Spiderman and my oldest wanted Captain America. I easily got the outfits on them. The costumes are sized 4 – 6, which is the same as the Hulk costume we bought last year. My oldest is a little short, so it was a bit long on him. He is honestly about the size of a 2 year old at 3.5 years. My youngest is just as big as his older brother. When the costumes were on, you couldn’t tell who was who! I actually had someone stop by from Craig’s List at that time and ask if they were twins. Point being, the costumes should fit a 4 to 6 year old fine. My 3.5 year old is just teeny.
The costume would be overall “cool” since it is 100% polyester and thin. But muscles are included around the chest and arms, which can get warm. The kids were fine running around the house in these Super Hero outfits.
My favorite thing about these costumes was the masks. Rather than plastic masks with the string in back, they were fabric masks that are worn over the heads. The Spiderman outfit has two holes for eyes and two nostril openings. My little one got the area that his mouth was all wet and humid, though. It looked super authentic, though. There was a boy wearing the same costume at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and I remember the kids looking at him… amazed. I knew they thought he was the real deal. It’s the mask! Captain America also has a cloth mask, it has wide openings for the eyes and you can see his nose and chin. This one allows for more visibility and breathability.
Little girls can have their dress-up clothes. Little boys can be super heroes. I already made them personalized capes, but with a Hulk Costume, Capatain America Costume and Spiderman Costume, I expect that we’ll have a lot of days that involve pretend around here. Costumes aren’t just for Halloween, I think they can encourage imaginative play. Even if Target and other super stores stop selling them once Saturday hits, you can still get costumes at stores like Costume Express. There you can find the following super
hero costumes right now:
X-Men Origins Wolverine (Size 7-8)
Black Suited Spiderman (Size 4/6 & 7/8)
