There are a lot of social networks out there. Right now they mostly seemed to be aimed at kids or adults. What has been specifically designed for tweens, though? They will find some of those social networks too young for them (Webkinz, Club Penguin) – while as parents you don’t want them to be on MySpace or Facebook. That’s whyFaceChipz was created – to provide a safe, age-appropriate networking site for tweens.
FaceChipz has been deemed COPPA compliant and has earned the ESRB Privacy Online seal as well as the Socially Safe Seal in an effort to ensure parents that FaceChipz is committed to their tween user’s safety. Search Engines are unable to find conversations that your tween posts. Plus, the only people that can read and see your child’s posts are the friends she exchanges FaceChipz with. Once a FaceChipz is used, it can never be used again. So if an unapproved adult gets his hands on them, it does him no good – he can not be friends with your kid. It’s also interesting that there is no internal search engine, so a stranger or bully can not search for your child.
Parental consent is needed to sign-up for FaceChipz, so there is a one-time $1 fee when your child creates an account that needs to be made with your credit card.
My Sneak Peek:
I was invited to get a sneek peek at this Tween Social Network. It was laid out very nice and clean. It had a lot of nice features – no poking here! You can add updates of what you are up to, use emoticons to display your mood, and even share secret messages. I think these secret messages go out to all friends…secretly. There is an inbox and an ability to compose messages to send direct to friends and you can gain points to shop for virtual items.
It’s really easy for your child to customize their page with different themes. I chose Shagadelic – which was an orange shag rug. And it’s also easy to keep track of the cute chipz you have received. All chipz are decorated with different emoticons. Although no one can search your child out internally, they can invite friends who are not yet part of the FaceChipz community through an e-mail.
Finally, there are safety tips that are listed right on their page. If someone is mean to them – STOP, BLOCK and TELL. Great advice!
