Holiday Guide: Bump Your Hair Style

I love Bumpits! I am still trying to learn how to place it correctly, but honestly I love it! What is a Bumpit? Well, it’s a “hair volumizing leave-in insert“. Pretty much, it’s a piece of plastic that has combs in it to keep it in place. You put it under the hair that you want to give some height to and it bumps it up! You can create some really cool styles for formal occassions, like upcoming holiday parties. Or you can look cute and sassy when going to a playdate or dropping the kids off at school.

Honestly, the first time I played with Bumpits I looked like a conehead with a wig. It was HILARIOUS. My husband and I laughed and I wondered if I would ever be able to put this on properly. Then I decided to give it another try. I actually put less effort into styling this time around. I simply brushed my hair, parted it from ear-to-ear, placed the Bumpit in the part, then covered with the hair that was from the front of my head. And… voila. That picture to the right is the result. I put on a headband and loved it. I think if I straightened my hair and then teased the front (which you are supposed to do) it would give the illusion of more hair and cover the combs on the Bumpit better. You don’t want to see any plastic when you do this. I think practice makes perfect.

The Bumpit is comfortable. It resembles those old plastic headbands that our moms made us wear and gave us headaches. But actually it actually is weightless and applies no pressure to my head. It was completely comfortable during my trip to the supermarket.

When you purchase Bumpits, you get three different sized plastic pieces. One is super teeny, so you can bump your bangs. The others you can use alone or together, depending on how much volume you want to give your hair. You also get a teasing comb and styling guide.

There are four colors to choose from, to minimize the possibility that the Bumpit will show. I had light brown, but there is also black, dark blonde and light blonde.
