So my best friend is pregnant. I am not sure if the little bean is a boy or a girl – but I already have a great gift idea for him/her. It’s a Hammie Downz gift set, which includes overalls, a book, a keepsake tin, a family tree and Hammie himself (a plush pig). And it presented perfectly in a keepsake tin. The gift is special, because it is something the baby will need (clothes), fun (has a toy), educational (book) and a family tree (Keepsake).
It’s not just the tin and family tree that makes this a keepsake, though – it’s the overalls. Or, as the creator says, Forever-Alls. The overalls are meant to be passed down from one family member and/or friend to another as one baby grows out of them and another grows in. So the same overalls that little “O” wears can be worn by his or her cousins, children and even grandchildren. The overalls are soft, but well-made. They would fit a child between 6 and 18 months, is my guestimation. And inside the coveralls there is a place to write 5 names and years. It says “Foreveralls given to _____” for the first name, and after that is says, “Handed down to _____” It comes with a permanent marker to write in the names, as needed.The straps over the overalls have two snaps for a better fit as the child grows.
The plush pig is Hammie Downing III, the inventer of ForeverAlls. He is about 6 inches, roly-poly, bright, pink and cheerful. He is wearing his forever-alls, of coourse. And he has a cute, curly tail peeking through the back. Everything is sewn on except the eyes, which I imagine are glued. Now, even though the Overalls are handed down, what about the pig? Surely he might even become a lovey! Well, you can order additional Hammies for the children the Overalls are being passed down to. Plus, if your child loses their Hammie, you can get replacements at a great price. (Depending on the quantity ordered, anywhere between$6.99 – $3.50 a pig)
The book, The Legend of Hammie-Downz, is written by Tim Dinan. You can actually read the complete legend on the website HammieDownz.com. It’s a cute, short story in a board book format that talks about how Hammie makes these special overalls that last forever.
I had a chance to talk to the author Tim Dinan. It was great to hear how he came up with the idea. You see, like many of y’all, his wife wanted to stay home with her children. Tim and his wife agreed that it would be okay, even if the kids had to wear hand-me-downs. But the way they said it was Hammie-Downz, which sounded like the name of a pig. So there a brand, clothing line and book was born.

I have so many things passed down to me from older generations that I cherish. I really feel like parents today aren’t quite buying the heirloom type things we should in order to give our kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, etc. something to cherish, too.
