I absolutely adore Veggie Tales. I was hooked since the first movie my boys watched, Abe and the Amazing Promise. It was funny, thoughtful, not at all violent and had a great moral. Then I got to watch Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah’s Umbrella. A playful twist with an Indiana Jones feel to it. Now for the holidays the Big Idea (the company behind Veggie Tales) released it’s first new Holiday DVD title in SEVEN YEARS! (Thank goodness Abe and the Amazing Promise taught us about patience!) So be on the look out for Saint Nicholas – A Story of Joyful Giving.
Saint Nicholas – A Story of Joyful Giving was just released October 3rd, but there is plenty of time to buy ($14.93 SRP) and gift it to a child you love. I love getting my kids in the Christmas Spirit with books and movies!
The story features my favorite characters, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. Bob is the steadfast, informative one. Larry is more impulsive and child-like. Bob tells Larry the real story of Saint Nicholas when their friend Laura thinks that her stocking might be empty this year.
Honestly, isn’t that story line just so true this year? With so many hours and jobs cut because of the recession, I am sure many parents are wondering how they will give their children “Christmas”.
Well, Larry wants to write Santa a letter to fix Laura’s problem. But Bob thinks this is a good time to share the story of Nicholas in Bethlehem. It’s a great story and very entertaining as Larry keeps “Christmas-sizing ” the story with lights, snow and Christmas jingles. After Bob tells his story, the town gathers together to ensure that everyone gets into the true spirit of Christmas, the way St. Nicholas would want.
I love the story because it emphasizes giving over getting. I definitely think people, especially older “kids” and “teens” sometimes lose the true meaning of Christmas and just want to get-get-get gifts. But giving is the wonderful part of Christmas. I always enjoy watching my children unwrap a gift from Santa over me getting a gift. And I hope they can experience that same joy as they get older and watch a loved one open a gift from them – even if its something as simple as a picture or photo. But I am getting off-track here!
I always love the Silly Songs they include in the DVDs. This one has Donuts for Benny. There is also a new character introduced in this video – Nicky the Pepper. Plus, check out the new song “Give This Christmas Away” performed by Matthew West and Amy Grant.
I never noticed this before, but you can get Christmas Ornaments and Plush Toys at BidIdea.com. Best part is, they are affordable! They all start around $5.99. And right now shipping is free with orders over $30 with code SHIP220.
And when you purchase Veggie Tales, you can send a FREE DVD Gift. There will be a offer inside the DVD case. All you have to do is log onto a special website and choose the free VeggieTales DVD that you want to send to a friend for only $2.99 shipping and handling.
Overall, this is a great, new addition to our must-watch Holiday Collection. The story is sweet, mom-approved and I have absolutely no qualms! You can even follow Veggie Tales on Facebook!
The Mom Buzz received this movie to review from the Family Review Network.

I love VeggieTales, too! The first movie I ever saw was Madame Blueberry. Have you seen it? It’s an older one, but still really good!
I haven’t seen it yet! I’ve only seen three movies so far. I am so missing out!
Only 3?! Yes, you *are* so missing out! LOL!
Enjoy discovering and watching more!
