My husband and kids love the Fraggles. It’s nostalgic for us, its new to the kids and lessons are learned through these quirky cave-swelling creatures. Fraggle Rock only ran four seasons, 96 episodes in all, but it was memorable and unique! From 1983 to 1987, creator Jim Henson encouraged understanding, harmony and diversity through the series. And now the last season, season 4, is available on DVD in a 5-disc set that contains all 24 episodes … including the season finale, of course. There is 47 hours of content, interviews, and 8 hours of bonus features. The set is available now for $29.98. You can also get the complete series (all four seasons) for $99.98. Any Fraggle Rock DVD makes a great gift for kids or adults. It won five international Emmys, including the award for Outstanding Children’s Program.
Some of my favorite episodes on the Final Season set include:
Episode 78: A Brush with Jealousy – Mokey hangs a painting in the great hall and thinks that the other Fraggles don’t like it as much as ANOTHER painting belonging to a different Fraggle. She goes to the trashheap and borrows a magic paintbrush. The paintbrush is”dangerous” if used for the wrong reasons – Pride and Jealousy. Of course, Mokey used it for the wrong reasons and gave the brush power over herself. But, as the Trashheap said – Mokey painted herself in this corner, and she needs to paint her way out to solve the problem.
Episode 83: Boober Gorg – We owned this DVD before we received the complete set. I love it, since Boober is my favorite Fraggle. He was hit in the head by an explosing radish and developed amnesia. The other Fraggles try to remind him of who he is … but he gets all confused and thinks he is a Gorg. He goes to live with Ma and Pa Gorg, who believe he is Junior transformed by a Wizard! He is so twisted about who he is, he evenĀ helps trap his Fraggle friends!
Episode 85: The Riddle of Rhyming Rock – Gobo goes to visit Rhyming Rock. You get three tries to solve the riddle of Rhyming Rock. Gobo starts guessing … but gets the first two wrong. He finds out about a spell that will help him solve riddles, but doesn’t realize there is something bad about using the spell for the wrong reason. But even if it was wrong, it helped answer a different question that leads him to dance in time.
Episode 96: Change of Address – Doc finally knows of the Fraggles, when he and Sprocket are about to move to the dessert. He wants the explorer Gobo to go with him … what choice will Gobo make? Well, let’s just say you cannot leave the magic.
Special DVD Features include:
- “The Inner Gorg” featurette – interviews with performers
- “Designing the uppets” featurette – interviews with the puppet makers
- “Directing the Fraggles” featurette – interview with Eric Till and George Bloomfield
