SafetyTat: Just in Case

logoSo on Thanksgiving I had a moment where I thought I lost my little one. I’ve experienced these moments before, where you think everyone is around and then realize that your little shorty is not around. This little mishap happened simply in my in-law’s house. One minute we are all in a room together. We start packing, we walk outside and shorty is gone. Someone checks this house – he’s not there. We all run to the pool … not there. I am holding my oldest as I wander around the outside of the house, contemplating knocking on neighbor’s doors – then my husband yells he found him in one of the bedrooms.
My point: If it’s that easy to lose a kid in a HOUSE, imagine the complexity and worry involved in a crowded, public place. That’s why I LOVE tattoos for kids. No worries, they aren’t permanent, but they do make a statement. They say, “If Lost, Please Call.” Literally. And you can get these children safety tattoos from Safety Tat.

iflostI had the opportunity to review Original Safety Tats, as well as Quick Stick Write-ons. The Original Safety Tats are customized with your mobile number. It’s a traditional child tattoo, that you apply with water. The tattoo can last up to three days. It’s funny how it lasts on my oldest forever, while my youngest can wear his off in one day. But that’s fine, because if you are on a trip, you will want to apply a new SafetyTat every day.

The Quick Stick Write on’s are an applique style peel-and-stick “tattoo”. It is made of a micro-thin elastomer with medical grade adhesive that is hypoallerfenic and skin safe. I personally cannot wear all band-aids, since I am allergic to something in them. They can make my skin red and burnt. So, I tried these to make sure they were a-ok with my sensitive skin … and yes, they passed the test. With these Quick Stick Write-ons you have the versatility of writing whatever information you need on the tattoo with  a supplied pen. The pen is compact, the ink is water proof and the whole system is easy to use. This system requires no water for application and you can peel the tattoo off when you are done.

I like the Quick Stick Write-ons for school trips, visits to grandma’s, etc. Since the Original Safety Tats have my mobile number “built-in”, they can only be used when I have the kids. If my husband has the kids and one gets lost, it will do little good for me to get the first call from someone who found my child. But the Quick Sticks let me write my husband’s phone number on them. These also last longer on my little one. I think it’s his hairy arms and legs that interfere with traditional tattoos that you place on their arms and legs with water.

Overall, I love these. I think the designs rock and many can be used for either a boy or a girl. There are frogs, mice, surfboards and many other kid-friendly options. Prices range from $7 to $19.95, which is not bad at all when it comes to protecting your children. And they have tats for other id necessities, like diabetic, non-verbal, autistic and allergies.

I’d use it for my son with his school stuff, especially on share day since he likes to bring in some of his favorite toys

The one I like the most is the Quick stick write on, the allergy one. My daughter has allergies and this would be perfect for when she is in school or sleepovers

I do alot of air travel with my son (3). I’ve had the terrifying experience of walking through the airport with a stoller on my back, purse and diaper bag; along with holding his hand. He’s gotten free before and I was petrified as he took off down the terminal hallway. This is a really great idea for busy situations!

  4. Nicole says:

I really like the Quick Stick Write-On’s. Doesn’t matter who he’s with, they’ll be able to add their phone number!

I would use them for all of our play dates. Having my littles ones in unfamilar areas with lots of other people is kinda nerve racking.
I would also use them on trips to the mall.

  7. Deane says:

I love the write on ones. I never know who is going to be the primary caregiver with my kids at a given time, so being able to fill in a number if they go off with an aunt, uncle, or friend would help ease my mind.
