February is American Heart Month and there is no better time to get your heart in check! Dr. Joshua Riff, Target Medical Director, offers tips to improve overall wellness and most importantly, lower the risk of heart disease.
- Be in the Know: Understand the risk factors for heart disease including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and weight. Dr. Riff recommends seeing your primary care doctor or visiting a clinic once a year to determine which screening tests are right for you and what your personal risk factors may be.
- Get Active: Physical activity helps you maintain an ideal weight, reduces stress and creates a stronger heart. Ideally, adults should get 30-60 minutes of moderate physical activity five to six times per week. Small changes, such as taking the stairs or parking farther away from a store, can make a big difference. Digital pedometers can also serve as a fun way to keep track of your walking progress.
