National Geographic Kids: Weird But True

As you know, I am a huge fan of National Geographic. I actually give my mom a gift subscription to the magazine, renewing it yearly. She brings the issues to work with her to read when she gets a break. Well, the other day at a meeting a coworker was bringing up a topic that she remembered reading about in National Geographic, so she whipped out the issue to provide more information at the meeting. How cool is that?

The thing is, there is more to National Geographic than just the magazine and books for adults – there is a HUGE selection of gift ideas for kids. I love magazine subscriptions, since they are a gift that keeps on giving all year! So I am thinking of getting my niece, nephew and sons all subscriptions to either National Geographic Kids or National Geographic Little Kids. These subscriptions are just $15 a year!

Plus, there are is a HUGE selection of books. Courtesy of National Geographic, I was able to gift to my nephew the 2010 National Geographic Kids Alamanac with amazing fun facts and pictures. It was PERFECT for him and costs only $19.95. But if you still want to give the love of National Geographic, but for a little less money, your kids (or grandkids or niece or nephew … ) will LOVE National Geographic Kids Weird but True with 300 Outrageous Facts about animals, nature, physics, people, places and more. 206 full color pages, huge colorful images and 300 facts to amaze friends and family!

Here are some of favorite fun facts that I learned from Weird but True:

  • A male ostrich can roar like a lion.
  • Sharks have 8 senses – humans only have 5. (I wonder what those other 3 are!)
  • Peanut Butter can be converted into a diamond.

The “Fact Finder” in the back lets you find facts about subjects in alphabetical order. For example, I looked up tongue. There were facts on this book about tongues on pages 7, 22 and 182. I learned girls have more taste buds than boys, a man knotted 39 cherries with is tongue in 3 minutes and a crocodile can’t stick his tongue out.

Want to purchase the all of these fun facts are available in a soft cover book full of color and imagery for a child you adore? Just visit the National Geographic Store to order a copy for $6.95.
