The other day at Publix there was such a super deal for Gorton’s Seafood – a lot of Buy One, Get One deals on their different shrimp! So I bought two boxes of Shrimp Scampi, two boxes of their Jumbo Butterfly Shrimp and then I just bought some fish sticks and tenders (no sale on those, bummer). But I was happy with the selection I got, since I like to make the fish sticks and tenders during the week for lunch. And the shrimp would be perfect for Friday dinners during lent.
I haven’t had a chance to make the Scampi yet – I did just buy this bunch of food 4 days ago – but I did make the Butterfly Shrimp. One package fed my family of four. The boys each ate about 1/2 a serving, while my husband and I each ate one serving. That came out to be around 6 shrimp each. Each shrimp was around 2 inches long and breaded. I popped them in the oven to bake and they came out so crispy. Then separately I put some butter and garlic in a pan. When the shrimp was done baking, I popped it into the pan with the garlic and butter then served with some broccoli. It was a great meal that took less than 30 minutes to make from start to finish!
The fish sticks and tenders are a “regular” lunch option at our house. I like the fish sticks since they are easy finger foods for my picky eaters. They can grab a stick then run off, and I know they got some important nutrients that help in brain development, like omega-3. The fish sticks can last them for a week or two, depending on their mood. The tenders are more “grown-up”. Each boy has to sit and eat with a fork at the table. They each get one fillet, while I like two. The tenders usually last us about a week. But remember, these items are for the boys only. If it was a “dinner’ meal for a family of four, it would probably last us one meal.
All of these options are breaded, which I love. It’s crispy and there is no “fishy” taste. It’s easy to see why my kids like them too! But there is a huge selection of seafood options at Gortons.com, from fish sticks to breaded fillets and grilled fillets to tilapia.
