My kids LOVE Legos. It’s an obsessive love. And I admit, I love watching them build and create. Often as we make towering buildings, I would think how cool it would be if we could make these LIFE-SIZE, so we can crawl through them. Actually, I am totally amazed that Lego’s hasn’t come up with that. They expect die-hard fans to build life-size buildings with their tiny little bricks. Now, imagine how long that would take a preschooler! But, don’t worry, you and your kids can still build kid-sized fortresses with Brik-a-Blok!
The official jargon is that Brik-a-Blok is a modular construction toy for children ages 6 and over. The break down from the Mom Buzz is that Brik-a-Blok is a collection of large panels that can be connected together to create playhouses, tunnels, hide-outs and more! And when the playing is done, they easily disconnect and can be put away for a new creation later.
I love it for all its benefits. Honestly, think about everything your kid benefits from building blocks … they get on a larger scale with Brik-a-Blok. They use their imagination, dexterity, creativity, problem solving and 3-Dimensional skills!
Currently, there are two sets that you can purchase. One set contains 26 blue and yellow panels, along with the necessary joint attachments. You can also purchase a set with 46 blue and red panels. Honestly, after playing with that larger set, I have to say that’s the way to go. And although 46 panels may not sound like “a lot” when you are used to dealing with hundreds of building blocks, it’s the perfect amount to build these items below:
Quality:
The panels are plastic and will bend under weight, so you don’t want little ones to climb on top of the structures they build. The light weight is what allows children to build with these. And should it collapse, no one gets hurt. The plastic keeps it well-formed and sturdy, unlike foam. And the connectors make everything more sturdy once it’s built so your child can mosey around inside their creation. You can use Brik-a-Blok inside or outside, but I wouldn’t leave it outside overnight. Definitely pick up immediately when done when playing outside to avoid weather damage. It is weather-resistant, but who wants to chance it overnight … right?
Who Can Play:
Brik-a-Blok was designed for children 6 to 12. My professional opinion is that little ones can use it and create, under supervision. My son (4 yo) chose the design he wanted, my 4 and 2 year old both gave me pieces to build and connectors to attach everything together. And then we all played inside!
When Done:
When you are done playing, the structure breaks down easily. You put the pieces back in their flexible, clear, plastic case with storage handle. It zips shut and you can stick it in a storage space, closet or garage.
PURCHASE:
The 26 panel set costs $109. The 46 panel set is $179. You can order Brik-a-Blok from BrikaBlok.com. You can also visit these stores to purchase them. Or just go to Amazon!
PLAYTIME:
Here is a video I took of our playtime with Brik-a-Blok. Brik-a-Blok sets are made in Canada and they take care in the design and safety of their toys.
CONCLUSION:
All I can simply say is Kid-Loved, Mom-Approved. Easy set up, easy break down, sturdy, light, and the kids just had a blast with it. It’s a playhouse that you can go HGTV with – redesigning, redesigning and redesigning! If you want something special to keep the kids entertained during a rainy day … or you have hordes of grandkids coming to visit… this is daily fun!

Oh man, that looks so cool! I love that it’s big enough to accommodate grown-ups as well. That means it could be used even as your kids got older. Can you imagine how huge it must seem to little toddlers? I remember when I was 3 or 4, I had this inflatable spaceship that I could sit inside, and it seemed HUGE. I look at pictures now and it was so tiny. LOL!
Hmmm.. this looks pretty interesting! But I wonder what the weight limit is?
Allison – I think technically there is no weight limit on the Brik-a-Blok because no one can climb on it. If my 2 yo climbs on it, it would collapse. You only climb in it. But the plastic is sturdy so it stays upright when you stack panel over panel. So … no weight limit needed, just loads of fun!
Happy Buzzing!
