If you are in your 30′s, you probably remember Popples. They were these plush toys that would roll into a ball? I never had one :sniffle: but a lot of my friends did. Boy, did I envy them! Well, I found a cool toy that is so Popple-like, plus it has educational value, too.
About Wumblers:
Wumblers were created by a mom at a time in her life where everything was falling apart. She was losing her husband and the father of her four young children to cancer and wanted to bring some happiness back into their lives so she returned to a hobby of drawing these bulbous, colorful characters. Each episode entertains and educates in a fun and creative way. The Wumblers teach character building, and spread positive, family friendly messages in a non-intrusive way.
The main Wumbler is Bertrum. When a Wumbler turns five years old they also turn into the color they are supposed to be. The very first episode in the series shows how Bertrum is so nervous that once he turns color people won’t like him anymore. His best buddy Raimundo, a Spanish speaking snail and his imaginary friends reassure him that everyone loves him for who he is on the inside not what color he is on the outside. It is messages like these that thread their way throughout each episode.
Laura Wellington, the creator, is a former preschool teacher and she just felt certain things were missing from children’s entertainment and she figured why not try to make a difference by teaching about respect, responsibility, empathy and making the world a better place by working as a community.

Food for Thought:
Wumblers are born out of Watermelon so The Wumblers are partnered with the National Watermelon Association. Watermelon is healthy, nutritious and a fun food. The Wumblers website even has some fun watermelon recipes for watermelon lovers that goes beyond the picnic table. The entire Watermelon industry has embraced The Wumblers and use the Baby Wumbler plush when they go into schools to teach kids about nutrition.
Products:
Not only is there the tv show, but you can purchase DVDs and plush toys, as well. I think you can purchase the DVDs on their website, but their “Wumbler Patch” was down when I went to look. I do see that the shows are available for purchase on Amazon, though! I also found a wooden Wumblers puzzle at GlammaToys!
The Wumblers did send two plush toys and my boys were so excited when they discovered them. One plush was an Orange Wumbler in a striped t-shirt (pictured above, left). He is 12″ tall and his name is Bertrum, the star of the show. The other plush they sent is the Popple-like toy I was talking about. You can see it in the picture towards the right. It either looks like a Wumbler with it’s head popped out of a Watermelon, or it turns into a Wumbler wearing a diaper. A toy like this can start arguments if you don’t have one for each kid. Plus, it opens up discussions about Watermelons and Healthy Snacks! The Baby Watermelon Wumbler is around 14 inches long and a lot thicker than the Bertrum Orange Wumbler.
Website Fun:
There is a whole kid’s section on The Wumbler’s website, with a Matching Game, Painting and Printables. If it’s a rainy day – let your kid explore their mouse and creative skills! I think I’ll be printing out those coloring pages for my local Mom’s Club.
Overall:
Overall the show is sweet with an old-school feel to it. The toys tie in nicely. There is nothing negative about the line, compared to other videos that are marketed to kids. And the feedback that it receives from parents speaks for itself. Definitely watch the embedded video above and get to know The Wumblers!
