Mom’s of girls must know about American Girl dolls. American Girls are a line of must-have dolls that have a “collector’s item” look to them, but no girl could ever leave them in a box. They are for ages 8+ , with each doll having her own book and “lesson”, but younger girls think that they “so very much need them” – as my 4 year old niece would say.
Well, American Girl also has a line of books for girls ages 8 and up. Some books teach valuable lessons, while others encourage positive learning experiences. For example, The Cutest Nature Book Ever is an American Girl guide to crafting, daydreaming, writing and thinking in the great outdoors.
The book complements the American Girl of the Year, Lanie. Lanie is an energetic girl who discovers the world in her own backyard. The book is designed to get girls outside and is filled with games and craft ideas using items found in nature. Plus, this book includes easy-to-follow instructions for preserving things found in nature, such as how to press leaves and flowers. The book is 64 pages long, paperback and spiral bound, by Carrie Anton. It’s suggested for ages 8 and up, but I can see younger children going through it with help from mom and dad.
One example of a project in the book is Stick Painting. “Who says you have to use a paintbrush to paint a picture? Sticks have all sorts of tips, making them fun painting tools.” There is also a cute craft called Perfectly Perched, where the little girl can make a cute little bluebird and owl using pompoms and felt to perch on a twig.
The book is only $9.95 and a great gift idea for any girl who loves the outdoors – or if you want to encourage some activity outside as opposed to online time!
