Unique Children’s Books Inspire Reading #win

Reading is a huge part of my life and the lives of my kids. We visit the library weekly, listen to story time, buy new books, comic books, chapter books, etc. Some books stand out more than others – and in the case of many books from SilverDolphinBooks.com they take it to the extreme. They have books that pop out, make sounds and practically come to life. They create books for wee ones to about 12 years.

You can see some books I reviewed in the past here: New Year’s Party: Silver Dolphin Books I apologize in advance if the formatting is off, since I worked on that post when this site had a different layout. But you get the idea of how cool their books are.

Recently I was checking out www.silverdolphinbooks.com and found SO MANY BOOKS I wanted for my boys, niece and nephew. Some of my favorites were:

Snappy Sounds: Robots (ages 0 – 3)

Moving Windows: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (ages 4 and Up)

Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs (Ages 5 and Up)

Sounds of the Wild: Mythical Creatures (Ages 5 and Up)

Spinning Globe: Night Sky (ages 8 and Up)

So I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to check out Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs and Spinning Globe: Night Sky a little closer, since that is how you really appreciate these books. First off, here is a video so you can see and hear what I am talking about:

If you couldn’t watch the video above, here is a written review of those two books.

Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs is by Maurice Pledger. The book is 16 pages long. Five page spreads have pop up scenes of different periods from the age of dinosaurs and as you take in the scenery full of 3-D dinosaurs, you also get realistic sounds of dinosaurs chirping, yelping and roaring. Scenes include Dawn of the Dinosaurs, In Jurassic Waters, The Jurassic Jungle, The Cretaceous Skies, and Cretaceous Kings. The pages that aren’t pop-up have descriptions from the pop-up pages, providing in depth descriptions of the dinosaurs you just saw. The only thing it’s missing is a pronunciation key which I could really have used! Over all, it is SO COOL and perfect for any dinosaur lover! It does take batteries, which can be replaced.

You can buy Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs from Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Borders. The suggested retail is $16.95.

Spinning Globe: Night Sky by Jon Kirkwood is the ultimate, interactive 3-D skywatcher’s guide. My 7-year old nephew LOVES space. He has a telescope and knows more than most adults. I swear he will lead a crew into colonizing a distant planet one day. And what better book to guide him in the right direction than one that includes a spinning globe with constellations mapped out. (It even has a stand for the globe!) The 54 page has 18 chapters ranging from types of stars to looking at the stars from different parts of the hemispheres. It has real photographs, illustrations and instructions on how to use the globe. I know I said it before, but this is SO COOL. And it’s perfect for the future space explorer in your home.

Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs and Spinning Globe: Night Sky are two books that look at the Earth’s past and where our future lies. Having little ones engaged in either topic is a step in the right direction. But if these aren’t right for you, SilverDolphinBooks.com has plenty of other books that are sure to engage a young reader in your home! Check it out for yourself!
