Choosing a Laundry Detergent

I hate buying Laundry Detergent. It just seems so expensive. I’ve tried the Washer Wonder Ball, which I actually do like. I use it every now and then, often right after using Smelly Washer since detergent build-up can add to the musty smell. But there is something about the cleansing power of detergent I do like.

I used to go based on cost and buy the cheapest one I could find. It was often powder in a giant box … but I honestly felt that it wasn’t getting my clothes clean. Trust me, in the beginning I thought it was all the same. But … my clothes were coming out dingy. So I tried a few other brands and ALL Free Clear quickly became a favorite. I could usually find coupons and a decent price and the bottle was relatively small – I liked that.

But recently I had the chance to try a new-to-me laundry detergent – Method Laundry Detergent. I had a 25 load bottle, which carries 10 fluid ounces. That means it uses only .4 ounces to do one load. ALL uses 1 fluid ounce per load, to compare. Method Laundry Detergent is VERY CONCENTRATED. Thanks to their ultra concentrated formula, they could design a teeny package that requires less energy to produce and creates less waste. Their bottle uses over 36% less plastic compared to traditional 2x detergents and 50% of that comes from recycled plastics. In fact, the 25 Load Method bottle is about 1/3 the size of the ALL Small & Mighty – and I thought that bottle was small.

Plus, Method Laundry Detergent is greener in that it uses a high-powered, plant-based formula made using 95% natural and renewable ingredients. It’s readily biodegradable and non-toxic in use, for skin-friendly clean clothes. Yes, Method is hypo-allergenic.

I also love how there are no more drips, thanks to the pump. Four pumps do 1 medium load of laundry. And it really squirts the detergent into the machine! Lots of power to the squirts – and no sticky mess dripping from my laundry shelf onto my washing machine. In fact, check out this cute video to see how easy and not-messy Method is compared to other detergents. (That competitor bottle looks oddly familiar…)

The detergent is clear and it left my clothes bright, colorful, smelling fresh and clean. Method actually has some advanced cleaning technology that differs from other detergents to make the clothes come out cleaner, even with less detergent. This idea is patent-pending and you can learn more on their website, www.methodlaundry.com.

Overall, I am extremely impressed by this small bottle of detergent. A 50 Load Bottle will cost around $14.99. That’s just under 30 cents a load. Atthe suggested retail price, ALL is the same price. A bottle of ALL (25 Loads) is suggested to retail for $7.50 – so that comes out to 30 cents a load.
