National Lampoon’s Summer Vacation can hit close-to-home when your actually on vacation with your family. The last family vacation I took with my parents and sister was the LAST ONE EVER, they swore. I was seasick when whale-watching. My sister got poked in the eye by a spider in Salem. Someone spilled fruit punch on me in a Boston McDonalds and I refused to move until my dad went and got me a new shirt. And I guess my sister and I argued so much, my parents decided never again with us. But now that they travel with my mom’s parents more – the stories are even funnier! From my grandmother telling me how someone mistook her for 60 instead of 80 or how my grandfather swore he took a rental car home – when he actually rode in my mom’s car.
So, whether your going across country to a national park or just taking the kids up to the grandparent’s house, half the fun is getting there and who you are with. And it doesn’t matter where you’re headed; you’re going to want to be comfortable along the way. There is a lot of buzz about Volkswagen’s Routan being a great family ride, with 12v power outlets, JoyBox™ Entertainment system, UConnect® Bluetooth® system, roof rack and more.
To celebrate Volkswagen’s Routan, they want to make your summer vacation easier. To do so they are offering a prize pack to one buzz reader. I remember when I was a child we took a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. We drove from the Denver area and were in a VW Van (I loved that Van!). We camped along the way. I remember my Grandma gave me a lap desk and packed us some fun activities to keep us busy. We even had a few travel games, and they were great not only in the car but also at the camp site! I will never forget Yellowstone, but our trip was cut short due to the big fires! I cannot wait to take my girls there as well!

One of my most memorable road trip adventures was bringing my daughter to Santa’s workshop. She loved it and enjoyed all the neat rides and was a little iffy on sitting on Santa’s lap though. It was a great drive down with a lot of nice scenery. I can’t wait to bring my son sometime down there since he hasn’t been there yet.
My most memorable road trip was in college with a bunch of girlfriends, when we drove to disneyland for spring break. The road trip was more fun than the destination!
one of my fav. road trips was when my parents still had us living in colorado. my uncle and his family with my favorite cousins would come and stay with us for a few weeks. We’ll we all piled up in the back of the truck which had a camper on it and we went to the Royal Gorge (sp?) in Canyon City. We went to some place that has a really long slide that you had to ride a potato sack on so you wouldn’t get burned. My cousin she got burned and well ooops I accidentally stepped on her leg!! Heheheheh that was like 20 yrs ago. Good memories!!!

The first time my daughter ever went on a ferry and it pulled away from the dock was priceless

I’ll never forget going to the grand canyon.
One of my favorite road trip memories was with my brother Chris. He lives in Utah and I live in California. I would fly to see him and he would drive back to Cali with me and we would just have a blast singing and being silly!
My buddy and I took a 24 hour road trip up to Canada…by the time we hit Detroit we were both hallucinating and delirious from lack of sleep, aches and pains, etc. The the joy of getting through customs ensued! Priceless.
we drove cross country when i was a kid
Most memorable is taking our girls to Niagra Falls and watching their faces, then stopping at Sea world on the way back and again watching their faces, all about water all about fun, thanks for the giveaway.
We took a 6-hour drive on a 90 degree day when I was a kid, and the car started overheating. We had to have the heat on full blast for it to keep running. We were so miserable – but it made the trip memorable!
Our best road trip was a 2 week drive from SC to Toronto with our two kids. We stopped along the way at several amusement parks where we rode the best roller coasters. We also went to Niagra Falls. It was amazing!
My favorite road trip memory was taking my children to see the ocean for the first time.
We live in the mountains so they had never come close to it.
But as soon as they saw the ocean there faces lit up like candles.
The look was truly priceless.
Thank you so much for the giveaway.

Several years ago, my mom got us four kids a road trip to west virginia, the rain, complaining, laughter, discovery, getting lost, is priceless. I hope to do the same for my kids one day
I remember our yearly drive to the jersey shore. We would have a great time in the back seat!
My family and I took a road trip when my grampa died from Michigan to Kentucky to spread his ashes at his boyhood home like he wanted. It may sound morbit, but it was a fantastic trip, I’m not sure my sisters and I have ever been closer. We treated that box of ashes like it was a person and ever ordered food for ‘him’ when we stopped to eat. Not that I want to do it again… but it was definitely a trip that I’ll never forget.
My best road trip was with my Mom back in the 70′s…we drove east and north from Chicago till we hit New York State and the Adirondack Mountain. We antiqued and garage sailed our way to the coast of Maine. We ate our way up the coast(I luv lobster!!!) to the tip of Maine and into Canada. Then west through gorgeous Canada till we were above Chicago, down through Minnesota and Wisconsin’s beautiful wilderness and home. Mom passed 3 years ago but I will always have the memories of that fantastic road trip!
I remember going to the Grand Canyon when I was really young, and I rode on a donkey. That was awesome. Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite road trip was in 1995 when my husband and I drove from Seattle to San Diego to Tampa to Boston. It was during the summer and we didn’t have A/C in the car, but we had a great time.

our most memorable road trip was when we went to the mountains. We plan on taking many more road trips in the future. >We only went to the mountains in Arkansas but they was so pretty
On a cross country trip, we stopped at the Oklahoma City Memorial. There was a quiet calm there.
I drove across the country for the Millenium celebration in New Orleans and it was great. I went solo, but kinda winded my way around getting cheapo hotels here and there and just exploring the country a bit. 4000 new miles on my odometer and 4000 new experiences to talk about! Sometimes I wish I could do it all again sometime, but with a wife and a kid now, its not really an option.
The day after I graduated, my high school sweetheart and I left Upstate NY and traveled west for two weeks – Badlands, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Wall Drug…it was a blast to be free from school and checking out our Country.
my most memorable roadtrip was to the AZ desert, wonderful starry nights
Most memorable road trip adventure was driving to Florida when I was 7 in an old caddy with no a/c in the high heat of August, I just remember a whole lot of “Moooom, she’s touching meeeeeeeeee, tell her to stop touching meeeeeeee”
I remember riding to visit my grandparents and my mom pointing out EVERY horse we passed. There were hundreds!
can’t wait to make roadtrip memories with my boys..
Our first road trip as a couple was through the Russian River valley in California, including a trip up the coast from San Francisco. Our first time driving on curvey coastal roads, staying at funky hotels, visiting popular and out of the way wineries. And who knew that “the geysers”, which was about an hour out of our way, was a power plant?
I loved picking the hotel once we got to the city. I always wanted it to have a pool and slide!
ONce took a wrong turn in Montana and ended up in Canada!
The most recent we took with my toddler. Trying to keep her entertained with Buzz Lightyear and Woody re-enacting the Toy Story movies. We laughed so hard our faces hurt! It was so much fun
Since my dad always worked (even sundays and national holidays), my mom was in charge of taking care of us. She did not know how to drive, so we used bicycles go to a local library, shops and stores. One day my mom, my brother and I rode to a zoo. That was the farthest we ever rode. It took more than one hour to get there, but the memories we created at the zoo are truly priceless. That’s my favorite road trip memory.
As children, my mother would take us from Central Texas to Louisiana to see her folks. As kids tend to do we had no concept of time and would ask the proverbial “where are we”, my mom would retort, “what do you see” usually the answer was “nothing”, and if the answer was nothing she would reply, “well then you’re still in Texas… Texas is a big state so we went through this routine on a regular basis.
My most memorable road trip was when my girlfriend and I just took off for Canada one day…We ended up staying awake all night and then we drove back down the following morning to make it to work on time. It was soooo foggy we couldn’t see the road and we almost hit a washing machine that was in the middle of the freeway! We made it to work on time but we couldn’t wait to get home that night and crash!
My most memorable road trip was driving from Florida to Maine with the family in an old VW Van with no air, black vinyl seats and we had to park it downhill to make sure it would let us take off!
My most memorable road trip is from when I was about 8 and we went camping -we had so much fun and I remember turning down the road and the fridge door flew open spraying my opened yogurt everywhere! Big mess but what a way to start off a vacation! ha

We would drive to Eureka Springs Arkansas just to get away for a weekend!
We drove from WI to NC with a 3 YO and a 1 YO. Wow, was it a long drive, and we even broke it up into two days. It has taken us until this year to try the roadtrip again…the kids are now 12 and 10!
my most memorable road trip adventure was driving down to Florida.
We drove cross-country, stopping to camp, and see a lot of the national parks, spent a couple of months in Denver, Colorado, and then back home again. My father was in school for his company in Denver; each weekend we’d pick another place to go and camp. It was really a wonderful summer that year!!
Thanks for the giveaway!
When I was young our family took a road trip to Florida stopping along the way to visit Graceland. It was a long trip but it was great to see the country. This was also the first time I had seen the ocean which was wonderful. I’ll never forget swimming in the ocean for the first time.
My most memorable road trip memory was with my best friend. To celebrate my last weekend of “freedom” as a single woman, we went on a road trip from Washington, D.C. to Maine. It was insane – but, we were able to hit all the states on the Eastern seaboard within 2 days.
When I was a little girl my parents saw no reason not to pull over by the side of the road and let me or my brother go to the bathroom. Once on a roadtrip to Disney World just as I was pulling up my pants a car came up behind us and hit me with their brights making me an accidental flasher.
BTW – I adore your website’s icon!
my most memorable road trip was when my grandpa took me to colorado. we rode around the whole state. it was a lot of fun!

My best trip was when I got to drive myself across a few states. It was nice alone time.
I’d have to say this memory is one that I have carried all my life since a very young age of my father taking the whole family to the Mountains, the ride there was nice and if I recall right there was a fabulous long huge waterway of some sort with groves of trees on a long shoreline
