American Girl’s Shine On Now! #win

American Girl is calling on girls throughout the country to help donate $1 million in clothes, books, dolls, and money to the following four great charities: Kids in Distressed Situations, National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions, National Wildlife Federation, and Save the Children through their new website – Shine On Now.

Raising the $1 million is easy! Visit ShineOnNow.com and register to become an American Girl Ambassador! You’ll get free stars starting July 13th that you can donate to help make the world a brighter place! Ambassadors can donate 100 Stars a Day! This is all FREE – yet you are doing a great thing to change the world.

To coincide with the launch of Shine On Now, American Girl is also introducing a brand-new virtual campus, Innerstar University™—a fun, safe online world where girls learn to be their best through a variety of games, quizzes, and other enriching activities that help boost their confidence and strength. Access to the new virtual world is free with each 18-inch My American Girl doll. My American Girl has been updated, allowing girls to create a doll that resembles them even more!

To me, American Girl dolls have always been a “doll” that girls can look-up to, as each doll has a unique story and background of a girl overcoming a challenge in a positive way. But I love how American Girl has found a way to use their influence in an even more positive manner! Little girls can start learning from such an early age about helping others and feeling better about themselves in the process with positive roll models like American Girl!

We take part in canned food drives & we donate clothing & household items to Good Will. In the future, I’d like to do a walk-a-thon with my children to benefit a local charity.

My neighborhood is over run with cats and kittens, and at this point in time, the city health department is not accepting any more animals. So my daughter and I take care of every cat and kitten that we can. Most are wild, so we catch all the kittens we can and tame them, so that we are more able to find good homes for them. It usually takes a long time to tame the mother cats, be when we do, we then take them and have them spayed. We love all animals, especially cats. It is just our way of helping the community.

My daughter just turned 3 and this year is the first yer I had her participate in our town’s Pride Day with me. We helped clean up garbage and plant flowers at several local parks. I wanted her to know how important it is to protect our resources. We have to do our part to keep the parks we play at in good shape. I plan on making it an annual family event.

We have been struggling ourselves, especially the last two years, but we always try to give it up big anytime there is a toy or food drive. Right now the store on the corner is having a food drive and I had each of my children choose a canned food, they counted out the money and added their can to the box. To my surprise, they wanted to do it again…one of them with their own piggy bank money!

My children and I are trying to do what we can to help our earth for us and our next generation. I am trying to change the way their school serves their lunches by joining PTA and working with the school board to make the lunches Waste Free. It is time to minimize the the trash going out from these school lunches. My kids do their part by bringing their lunches full of reusable items such as bento boxes and plastic water bottles. My kids get tons of questions and they then do their part by educating their friends on why we need to be doing our part by not having to make a resource for every meal we eat.

  50. Denise B. says:

We don’t do forced volunteering nor do we believe in it. It’s not true volunteering unless it comes from the heart. We set an example for our children to follow so it may come naturally to them. We are mostly concerned about the homeless, so we give food to the local food pantry and hand food directly to a homeless person we may come across.
