Okay, I am becoming a HUGE vacuum snob. Just over a year ago my Dirt Devil bit the dust. I bought a new vacuum to replace it …and returned it the next day. The suction just wasn’t “there” – I can’t even remember what brand it was, but I was seriously disappointed. So I bought another Dirt Devil … and it worked, but still not what I wanted out of an upright canister vacuum.
Since then I’ve tried a few different vacuum brands that impress me with different features, from suction power to virus killing UV lights. But if you want nice, not-too-fancy, very powerful, affordable upright canister vacuum you can not go wrong with the Panasonic Jetspin Cyclone Vacuum. I think I finally found a vacuum for my small, bare floor house. We have no carpeting, just tile and laminate. We have two dogs – both with short hair that like to track in dirt from the backyard. And two little boys, who also like to track in dirt from the backyard.
In our house the stuff that needs to be swept, Swiffered or vacuum usually includes a mix of dog hair, dirt, sand and crumbs from food. I normally clean the floor 3 -4 times a week.
When the Panasonic Jetspin Cyclone Vacuum arrived, I had it assembled in minutes. At this point in my life I can assemble both a vacuum and a stroller in a minute! Really, it was easy – everything just popped into place. I love the handle on the Jetspin Cyclone, which is adjustable for height and to vacuum odd spots. The on button is on the canister itself, rather than by the foot pedal.
When I peered down to see the power button, I noticed a little light gauge (DIRT SENSOR) that tells you when the floor is clean or dirty. You can see video on how that works below. It was pretty cool! If you pass by a dirty area it lights up red – when it’s green you can move on to the next section. I was happy to see that my house was mostly green, so it has lower standards than my mother. (HAHA!) But I think it was pretty accurate, truthfully.
I love that you can pull out the adjustable handle with a quick release button and then use it with vacuum attachments. My favorite attachment is the Air Turbine Brush. I used it to remove “stuff” from my couch – hair/crumbs/etc. It has little wheels and a brush. It was gentle on the upholstery, yet powerful enough that I didn’t feel graininess when I sat down again. Sold separately this would cost $20-30, but it was included with the vacuum. There was also a crevice tool and brush.
With the on-board attachments, flexible hose and wand you can get a combined 12-foot range. Right now buyers should also get a bonus floor brush to clean hardwood floors safely and quickly.
Another cool feature is that you can completely disassemble the dust cup to clean it. That way trapped pet hair, dirt and dander won’t leave a dusty smell in there.

I have a cat that sheds like crazy. This would work great on the fur. I love the dirt sensor feature! Couldn’t possibly leave the floor “accidently” unclean.

I really need a new vacuum, mine smells every time I turn it on
We have an old upright vacuum that doesn’t have a hose, and we have a mini-Shop Vac that falls over every time we use it. We have nine cats who shed enough to keep me in sweaters (seriously, I saw a TV segment about a lady that makes yarn with her cats’ fur) along with all the usual household dust.
