Shrek Forever After for Xbox 360

With the Xbox, sometimes it can seem hard to get family-friendly games that my kids can play … or fun games that my husband and I can play with my boys watching. But the new Shrek Forever After for Xbox 360 is a riot! It’s easy enough for me and my son to play, there is action, humor, skills, “fighting”, problem solving … definitely enough to keep you entertained during game play.

About Shrek the Game:

Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss In Boots are back in Shrek Forever After, the final chapter in the Shrek story. Shrek longs for the days when he was a “real ogre” and not the family man he is today. Making a deal with the slick-talking Rumplestiltskin, Shrek is transported to an alternate world where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is King and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Fight to save your friends, the land of Far, Far Away from the mischievous miscreant, Rumplestiltskin and reclaim your one true love.

One of the coolest things about this game is that up to 4 people can play! That means both boys and my husband can play at the same time! (We only have 3 controllers, not 4. Otherwise I’d jump in too!)

My son plays the game the most – face it, he has the most time! During his online adventure he can swap between being Shrek, Fiona, Puss in Boots and Donkey. Each character has their own special abilities that helps them get across hurdles and fight. Shrek is big and strong, Donkey kicks over items and breaks open locks, Fiona lights stuff up and Puss climbs. The goal is that through teamwork they can defeat Rumpelstiltskin, just like in the movie.

An unusual part of the game play is that you can go between Shrek’s normal world and the awful, gloomy alternate world. I think sometimes it helps you get across areas, plus adds to the fun and possibilities of the game.

The game is appropriate for younger players, with no blood or gore during fighting scenes. I mean, Shrek swings a few punches and destoys crazy Jack-O-Lanterns – it’s not overly violent at all. It definitely has the humor and charm that you find in the Shrek movies.

The game features music that you will find in the flicks – upbeat and fun – for example, “Walking in Sunshine“.

My son and husband have been playing this game about a week and haven’t completed it yet. I think if my husband was playing by himself he would have been done in a day. But the point is to play as a team and we like watching my son figure things out.

Overall, I think this is a great family game. My nephew, niece and sons can all handle this game and they are under 10. The game is rated everyone 10+. I think it’s one of my favorite family-friendly Activision games. There is cartoon violence, comic mischief and “mild lyrics”. You can purchase it for $49.99 wherever Xbox games are sold.
