Move over Littlest Pet Shop, you have some real competition with the new collectible Mix Pups. They are tiny, pocket sized puppies with features and accessories that can be mixed and matched so little girls can make their own “designer pooches”.
Do you have 1 Poodle and 1 Chihuahua. Put the ears/hair of the poodle on the head/body of the Chihuahua and you have your own Chi-Poo in seconds! Oh, and the legs are ALSO detachable and switchable, which my little boys were quick to find out. At 4 and 3, they love this kind of stuff too. I like it because it really helps little girls further their imagination, as their pups are posed in multiple combinations.
There are 16 collector puppies right now. The list includes:
- Roxy the Chihuahua
- Annie the Bulldog
- Lucy the Dalmation
- Chloe the White Poodle
- Sophie the Silver Yorkie
- Maddie the Dachshund
- Sandy the Retriever
- Amy the Boston Terrier
- Molly the Cavalier
- Daisy the Border Collie
- Coco the Chocolate Labrador
- Shelby the Husky
- Bailey the Beagle
- Zoey the Black Poodle
- Sallie the Pink Pooch
- Susie the Gold Yorkie
The price point is good, at $5.99 for a single Pup Pack. The single pack will include 1 dog, 4 accessories and a dog bed. Double packs are available for $9.99, with 6 accessories (3 per pooch) and 2 beds. You can also purchase additional accessory packs, so the Mix Pups can go to the Park, Beach or play make-believe! And of course, every Mix Pup will want its own playset – like a Day Spa or Pawty Van! Current playsets range in price between $24.99 and $19.99, making them affordable for Santa… or grandma!
The Mix Pups are larger than the Littlest Pet Shop toys, I dare say double in size. I think that makes them more fun and harder to lose! The Mom Buzz received a double pack with Bailey the Beagle and Chloe the Poodle. It is suggested for ages 4 and up. My boys had NO PROBLEM pulling off legs so I could apply them onto the other pup’s body. The legs are pose-able. And the hair actually just comes off, like a plastic wig. There is not real attachment system there, but if I flip the pup upside down it doesn’t come off. They are pretty cute bald without ears, though. And after seeing my goddaughters play with figurines, I know that pups like these will fare well living and being played with by girls. (The boys would leave me on a hunt for accessories if I let them play with Mix Pups unsupervised.) But that’s why this is designed with girls in mind – not boys!
The accessories we tried were the collars, shades, skirts and blouses. The sunglasses don’t stay on too well, but everything else works wonderfully.
