Bambi Diamond Edition Releases from the Disney Vault

My husband was at Best Buy last week and he told me he was eying Bambi. He hasn’t seen the movie in over 20 years. But he got to relive the movie, this time with me and his sons at his side. That’s because we had the opportunity to have a special at-home viewing of Bambi Diamond Edition before it was released from the Disney Vault on March 1, 2011.

Like many people in their 30s, we have certain memories tied into the movie. For me, it was the loss of Bambi’s mother, when Bambi first met Flower and Thumper, the fire outbreak, etc. But when I watched the movie again, it was easier to take all the losses that Bambi sees as a young fawn and how it helps him become the next Prince of the forest. And my sons, ages 3 and 4, LOVED the flick. They LOVED the new (to them) characters, music and comedy.

Bambi was Walt Disney’s 5th full-length animated classic, one that should be in every fan’s collection. Bambi learns valuable life-lessons about friendship, bravery, love and life. It is beautifully restored and enhanced, allowing you to really follow the story, mesmerized by Bambi’s first steps, first love and wonderful music. One of my favorite scenes in this classic is the first rainstorm that Bambi sees, as the drops of water fall onto the leaves, they make different musical sounds that lead into a gorgeous composition that you only see and hear in the older classics.

The new Bambi Diamond Edition will be available for a limited time only. Consider picking it up for an upcoming birthday gift or stick it in an Easter Basket! The Bambi Diamond Edition will be available as a 2-Disc Disney Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD) for the suggested retail price of $39.99. A High Definition Movie Download is also available for $19.99. Those who want to own the standard definition DVD version will need to wait until April 19, 2011.

FUN Bambi FACTS:

  • Bambi was first released in 1942 during World War II.
  • Bambi took 5 years to make, due to the exquisite artwork and attention to detail of every scene and character.
  • Walt Disney broke longstanding animation tradition by casting child actors in the role of the baby animals – Baby Bambi (Bobby Stewart), Young Bambi (Donnie Dunagan), Adolescent Bambi (Hardie Albright), Young Thumper (Peter Behn). I think that really works well, especially with Thumper who has the most adorable toddler/preschool voice/lisp.

Viewers of the Diamond Edition will have wonderful bonus features, including but not limited to:

  • Inside Walt’s Story Meetings – Enhanced Edition
  • 2 never before seen deleted scenes
  • Deleted Song: Twitterpated
  • Blu-ray Gallery
