What is that on your arm? BodyMedia Fit

So I’ve had a busy day today running errands. I dropped my oldest off at school, went to Target, then the Vitamin Store, followed by a visit to my grandma and a stop at Pier 1 – to arrive back in time to pick up my son from school. And along the way I heard the same question over and over.

“What’s that on your arm?”

I admit, if I didn’t know what it was – I’d be eager to know too. I have an arm strap with a white little electronic device. The device is simple with a button in the middle and two pinpoint lights beneath it. It’s quiet, comfortable and I keep forgetting it’s there. It’s my BodyMedia Fit, which I am trying out for the next month.

Anything fitness related usually gets my attention quick. And since I am trying to maintain and enhance my shape for a Figure Contest, I thought this might be able to help me be lean.

BodyMedia Fit is a system that incorporates the data it tracks from wearing the armband, along with any information you input on the computer re: diet and it syncs to your SmartPhone, as well. My husband thinks it’s neat, since he uses both a pedometer on his phone and a wrist watch tracking thing separately. So he thinks the fact that the BodyMedia Fit system incorporates all three is cool. Personally, I just want simplicity – so I can’t wait to see how this works out this month. The simpler the better.

So far it’s simple. I woke up this morning and put on the armband. Then … you do nothing. After 10 minutes it wakes up and gives a little beep so you know it’s on and tracking. And then you wear it for up to 23 hours at a time. So I’ll take it off tomorrow (since it can even track you in your sleep) and sync it to my computer with the provided USB cord to see what information it provides.

So in short, if you see me ’round town with an electronic thing-a-ma-jiggy on my arm – it’s just my BodyMedia Fit band. I am using it to track my movement, calories burned, physical activity and steps taken. It’s just one step closer (no pun intended) to help keep me on track to a healthier me! Oooh that sounds so cool! I agree, if I saw you out and about, I would want to know about it as well. Sounds like an incredibly helpful device that can help limit the amount of gadgets one needs to carry around for fitness.

That sounds pretty cool! I will have to look into these, maybe it will help me stay on track with my weight loss goals!

  4. that is handy!! Right now I am on WW and tracking my activity on my computer separately and that gets tedious. This seems so very simple! (And I do forget that chasing my kids around the house is definitely activity! This would track that!)

That’s pretty neat. As much as I’d love to know more about my daily activity and ways to increase it, I’d probably get tired of people asking about it.
