With two boys, two dogs and a husband I am consistently challenged to find the best way to clean the floor. I never had this problem when it was just me and my cats. But the dogs are constantly tracking in outside dirt, the boys drip applesauce, milk and yogurt, while my husband tracks in all kinds of work dust and soil from his household and backyard projects.
Over the past few years I’ve discovered a few different cleaning tools that I love and are up to the challenge.
My favorite vacuum (after 1 year of use) is still the Panasonic JetSpin Cyclone Vacuum. It picks up EVERYTHING, has a light alert to let you know when it’s still picking up debris in an area and it’s easy to empty.
For my hard floor, I love my Bissel Steam & Sweep. It sweeps up everything into an inner compartment and will steam clean the floor for an awesome shine. Even my BFF noticed the difference, thinking I changed my floor! In the past 6 months I’ve owned it, I’ve had to change the filter once and have bought two new pads for it. (Filter was bought online at Bissel.com and the pads I bought at Target.)
I also own the Roomba iRobot. He is a robotic sweeper, sweeping up debris into an inner container to be emptied later.
So when I first heard about the Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner, I thought it would be more like the Roomba iRobot, sweeping up debris into an inner compartment with no need for a human to direct him. But the bonus was that he mopped, as well, and I had no idea how he would do that. Well, I learned that my first impression was wrong and this is exactly how he works.
First off, the Mint takes up less room than the Roomba. He doesn’t have a charger base that he returns to. Instead, you have to plug him in with his cord when he’s done cleaning. You store him upright, not flat, like the Roomba, which mean the Mint takes up less room. He is not a sweeper, like my Roomba or Bissel Steam & Sweep. Instead he comes with reusable pads that are the same size as the Swiffer wet and dry mop pads. That means you can either use his reusable washable pads, or you can really use the Swiffer ones in it’s place.
If a Swiffer dry or wet pad get your floor clean, then you will love the Mint. He does exactly that – runs around the house in an organized manner using a GPS-like Cube to keep track of where he’s been and where he’s going. So while he’s Swiffering, you can go out and run errands, clean a bathroom, change some diapers, work out, feed the dog, etc.
Now, going back to the beginning of this post. My house get’s INSANE with drips and spills. So it really needs the steam to really get a deep/down mop. But I noticed a marked decrease in dirt when running the Mint with the dry Swiffer Sweeper Cloth. When I ran my Bissel Steam & Sweep after the Mint did his sweeping, it barely picked up any small dirt or debris. It still got bigger things, like cereal, though. But the Mint really does pick up small dirt, debris and dust like a champion.
It also is amazing to see how it really gets wall edges. He doesn’t bang into them, the way I do with a vacuum, scuffing the wall or chipping paint. He does it gently and efficiently. And he gets right up to the edge of my area rug, without going over it. My Roomba would try to eat my rug. (Bad, Roomba, Bad!)
Overall, I think the Mint is perfect for running through my house every day with a dry cloth. He keeps my floor clean for unexpected guests, instead of me having to heave out a manual sweeper or vacuum to do every day cleaning. I do think the dry Swiffer Cloths pick up more than the cloths it came with, so buy a pack and compare for yourself when you first get the Mint. I like the idea of reusable, but I like the idea of CLEAN more. And for homes that don’t see the same drips, drools and dirt that my house does, the Mop feature would be perfect. (Yes – I am talking to you single women with cats! Or a family with only girls. LOL.)
HOW IT WORKS:
WHERE TO BUY:
I saw that you can purchase the Mint Automatic Cleaner at BedBathandBeyond.com for $199.99. And most BedBathandBeyond fans will wait for that awesome 20% coupon to purchase it.
I also saw the Mint Cleaner on Amazon for $188.99.
You can also buy it direct from MintCleaner.com right now for just $199.99 (normally retails for $249).
It is also available from HSN, Wal-Mart, SkyMall and other retailers.

I think I want one, love the cleaning feature, perfect for all of our hard surfaces.
That looks lovely! We have tile floors downstairs and it is SO much work to mop them as often as needed (too often with two under 4 and two big dogs!)
Great review. I love how it can use the swiffer pads on it. My home is mostly hard surfaces so this would be a perfect. I also loved how you kept referring to it as “him”.It made me laugh!
LOL. I definitely get a “he” vibe from the Mint. It’s a robot, so I guess I feel it truly has personality compared to other cleaning gadgets.
Thanks for buzzing by!

I need one of those. I hate cleaning my floors and it’s one more thing I have to do. I love that it has a GPS type action and that it powers down after done. Amazing. Great review too!
What a clever idea. I have all wood floors and I am always finding spots in my kitchen.
OMGosh! That is the coolest thing ever!!! I want…not I NEED one of those!
I like that you don’t necessarily have to use the cloths it comes with, and it does look like it’s so easy to store out of the way easily.
I’m intrigued! Thank you!
