Looking for some new e-books or apps for your preschooler or toddler? Well, Sandra Boynton fans will be THRILLED to learn about two new e-book apps for the iPhone and iPad. And they will not be disappointed, as these e-books have wonderful touch-activated surprises that bring new life to two classic stories.
- Moo Baa La La La!: My kids and I can recite this story from heart. We’ve been reading the board book since my oldest was just a few months old. The “old-style” board book reviews animal sounds – cow, horse, duck, dog, etc. But it does it in a cute Sandra Boynton way, with wonderful illustrations and singing pigs.
The e-book can be read by “a big guy” or your child can read on their own. If they require assistance, they can still touch the words and hear how they sound. My 5 year old reads it that way. In the e-version of Moo, Baa, La La La! there are some “additional” characters to add to the fun. For example, if you touch the sun when the pigs say Oink, it will bring out the moon – along with a baby pig! An every time you push a duck – another duck appears. Keep pushing each new duck until the baby duck quacks! There are even some fun interactive surprises. Like you can shoot the dogs and cats off the page.
The Going to Bed Book: The Going to Bed Book is a sweet board book, that takes children step-by-step in bedtime preparation. But of course, they are following classic Sandra Boynton characters – like an elephant, pig and hippo – in their nighttime ritual on an arc.
The e-book is adorable. You can have a “big guy” read it to your child or they can read it themselves. If they choose to read it themselves, they can still touch words to get assistance when needed. There is movement on a lot of pages, to attract their attention. Plus, they can find hidden surprises by opening a pajama drawer, turning off lights or spinning the moon. One of my favorite pages is the last one, where they “rock and rock and rock to sleep”. If you touch the sky, you can add stars. If you touch the water, fish will jump out. I also love in the middle, when they are brushing their teeth. You can touch the hot water tap and the whole page gets STEAMY. Then you just wipe the steam away!
Overall, I already loved the books. But Sandra didn’t go the “easy way” of just transforming her book straight to an e-book. She kept the original charm and added surprises that kids are sure to love – and adults too! Ready to download? Here are the links to the app store:
