So I’ve been on the lookout for a Halloween Countdown Calendar since early September. You may remember my post: Print, Make or Buy a Halloween Countdown Calendar. Well, one popular option I need to add to my list is the Felt & Applique Halloween Countdown Calendar from Pottery Barn Kids.
I received one for review – and my only regret is I didn’t get one sooner. It came rolled on a wooden dowel. I could either hang it using one supplied ribbon, or I could swap it out and hang it from two smaller ribbons tied to each side of the dowel. For simplicity and to ensure an even hanging of the Countdown Calendar, I used the single ribbon.
The countdown calendar is huge – over 43″ high. That makes it “longer” than my 5-year old’s height. It is also 33″ wide. Think huge! The dominant color of the Countdown Calendar is an orange background. It has an off-white and black trim. The appliques are black, off-white and orange. Appliques include a black tree, cats, spider and bats, orange pumpkins and the off-white stars, moon and spider.
There are thirty-one 2.5″ x 2.5″ pockets sewn on the Countdown Calendar. They mostly go in order, but every now and then you have to hunt one down. It’s fun to find out that what seemed to be decorative cats, spiders, pumpkins and bats are really pockets for goodies.
You can stick whatever you want in the pockets. We are doing a mixture of activities (written on notes), little prizes (stickers, Halloween toys, Halloween Notepads, Etc.) and bigger surprises (once again – I write the surprise on a note). Since today is day 5, I’ll share with you what I did for each day… and what I have planned for the next few days.

Day 3: Halloween Stickers
Day 4: (Note) Halloween Costumes
Day 5: Halloween Stickers

Day 11: Halloween Bats
Day 12: Halloween Stickers
And so on and so on. As you can tell, I have a lot of stickers!
Overall, the boys love taking turns checking the pockets. I either fill them after school or in the morning, depending on whether it’s a weekend or school day. I can’t wait to use this item for years to come. It’s a must have for those looking for kids Halloween decorations.
