In case you didn’t know, there are jut 81 (or less, depending on when you are reading this) days until Christmas. For a planner like me, that means having a list of gift ideas prepared and holiday shopping season has officially started!

Christmas Countdown

If you’re looking for an affordable gift ideas for the active outdoor guys, then pin the Talkabout 2-Way Radio onto your shopping list.

The Motorola Talkabout MT350R Radios are perfect for any situation where a cell phone connection is sketchy or if you don’t want to put your phone in “danger” of becoming wet or dirty.

2-WayRadio (267x800)FOR THE OUTDOORS: If your giftee likes to be outdoors, it’s perfect for around the cabin, fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, kayaking, or paddleboarding. The MT350R is “Weather Proof”. You don’t want to submerge it in water, but it is built to handle wet situations or weather conditions, like rain or snow.

Recently my husband’s uncle actually got lost when hiking. He had broken his leg and a search party had to go out looking for him. There was no cell communication. You never think it will happen to you, but a 2-Way Radio like the MT350R actually has an Emergency Alert Button to send out distress calls.

Also beneficial is its Weather Watch ability, receiving Weather Alerts in your area. And it also acts as a flashlight, so you don’t need to many other accessories clipped to your utility belt.

My parents, my sister and my brother-in-law like to do a lot of kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. And they have all “lost” a phone in the process. These 2-Way Radios would be perfect to keep them communicating, even if they are on different boats. And in Florida that is useful when you never know when you might see a shark, alligator, manatee or dolphin in the water.

THEME PARKS: Being Floridians, we also spend a lot of time in theme parks. We have Busch Gardens, Disney World, SeaWorld and LEGOLand close by. Well, these 2-way radios are awesome for big groups or families visiting theme parks. You could give one to a tween or teen and one to a parent, so that each can enjoy the park to the fullest.

Or if you are visiting with another family, each group can get one. That way each group can hit their favorite rides and then join up for ones everyone enjoys. Sometimes when we do this, our family members can’t hear or feel their phone ringing in a backpack or purse. But with the Talkabout Clipped to their belt, they’ll feel a vibration notification for an incoming call.

SMART FEATURES The MT350R has 22 Channels and 121 Privacy Codes. It can take rechargeable batteries, coming with its own Y Cable Charging Adaptor. And when the charge runs out in the field, you can always switch to alkaline batteries.

The Talkabouts have a 35 mile range, depending on your location. In the city, it’s more like a 2 mile range. On the water, 9 miles. In a clear open space, that’s where you get your 35 mile range.

FINAL SAY: Overall, I don’t know any guy who wouldn’t love this feature-rich 2-Way Radio from Motorola. It is fun, yet practical. Great for the outdoors, as well as for more urban adventures. It has a MSRP of $89.99 and can be purchased at most popular retailers, as well as online.

I always have a hard time buying for my husband for Christmas. It is not that he is picky, but he is just a man with very few things he says he likes. I think this would be great for him and his son when he takes him on their outings.
