In my buzz for “geek” Valentine’s gift ideas, I added a very unique gift idea. It was more sexy than geeky, but it was so unique I had to add it in my top ten list. An art kit from Love is Art that you and your significant other paint with your bodies. Uhm. How awesome is that?
The idea is simple.
FIRST, ORDER A KIT: You check out all of their Love is Art kits, which have different colored canvas and preselected paint options that are sure to please most viewers and painters. Or you can choose your own paint colors for a few dollars more. And the kids are wonderfully priced, starting at $60.
You can also purchase the most premium kit for $600, but that is the Gallery Kit. You send that canvas back to the company to be stretched, mounted, wired and coated with a finish, and then they send it back to you.
For most of my readers, I am guessing that the $60 – $79 range is where we are looking. Plus, you can get 20% off if you fan Love is Art on their Facebook page. All of the kits come with a drop cloth, the paint, the canvas (white or black), little booties so you can race to the shower without getting paint on the floor, and a loofah to help get the paint off your bodies.
I chose the Custom Edition kit. You get to choose 4 paint colors and a black or white canvas. The canvas is a soft, cotton, HUGE piece of material measuring 41″ x 54″. The drop cloth is of course even bigger, measuring 10′ x 12′. It is very much a necessity, to keep paint under control as you use your body to get it across the canvas.
NEXT, GET ROMANTIC: Set the mood! Bring out the champagne and strawberries. Relax. Feel romantic. Sneak in a few smooches.
THEN, GET READY TO PAINT: Set up the canvas on the drop cloth. Have the paint ready, there is a little piece of paper/plastic that has to be removed and then you place the cap back on the bottle. Squeeze the bottles to add swirls, designs, spots of paint – whatever strikes your fancy. Ideally you only want 6 ounces of paint on the canvas, so don’t feel like you need to have all the paint out of the bottle.
Once the paint is on the canvas, you gotta dress down. :wink wink – nudge nudge: I suggest putting the paint bottles in warm water before putting the paint itself on the canvas, because that paint was COLD! But my husband and I laughed so much. It was hilariously funny, really bringing us together.
Roll around, get a few more smooches in.
CLEAN UP! Once the design is wonderfully abstract, put on those booties and race to the shower! You will need to help each other to get all of that paint off. My husband even had it under his arm pit. It was so funny. It was in my hair, too.
DRY: Let your canvas dry in a safe spot. It took overnight for ours to dry.
HANG YOUR ART: I still haven’t stretched and hung our art. But I love it. It has a celestial, sky look to it. We used copper, gold, blue and purple on a black canvas. It is so beautiful to me. We plan to hang it in our bedroom.
FINAL SAY: My husband thought this was the best gift ever. A big, manly guy said that! Seriously. He wants another one. If he had it his way, there would be one in every room of the house. It’s romantic, it’s fun. It was a perfect way to celebrate each other.
