http://themombuzz.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=35738&action=edit#Last week we watched the highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. My husband, sons and I, like many other families, love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and all the story lines that are tied to it. Not only have we watched and read the Harry Potter series, we also own the text book by Newt Scamander, the Quidditch manual, and a variety of wands.
So after the movie, when all you want to do is watch it again, what can you do? Pick up some magical gifts from Candlewick Press! They have:
- J.L Rowling’s Wizarding World: Movie Magic Volume One: Extraordinary People and Fascinating Places
- Harry Potter: Winter at Hogwarts: A Magical Coloring Set
- J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World: A Pop-up Gallery of Curiosities
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Newt Scamander: A Movie Scrapbook
I had received this collection for review, because I knew two little wizards that would be amazed by the extra tidbits of information they could gleam from them.
First, I am amazed that J.L Rowling’s Wizarding World: Movie Magic Volume One: Extraordinary People and Fascinating Places is just VOLUME ONE. That means more volumes are to come. I wonder what will be in them? This one focuses on the people and places in all the movies, up to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It is a good sized book, 9″ x 10.5″, hard cover, with 96 pages. From Gringotts and Hogwarts to New York City, this book explains how these places were created for onscreen presentation. Readers also get insights from the characters in all of these scenes. Plus, it has all sorts of surprises with flaps, stickers, and inserts. It retails for $29.99 and it perfect for Muggles and Wizards alike.
Coloring books are so huge right now! The Harry Potter: Winter at Hogwarts: A Magical Coloring Set is fun-sized, at 6.25″ squared, with 48 pages. It is good for ages 8 to 108. This little Magic Coloring Set is a perfect winter gift, with a focus on Harry Potter’s winter season, a BIY (build-it-yourself) Fire Bolt broom, and 48 colorable gift tags. This little set retails for $15.99.
This book is most unusual. I was expecting a traditional pop-up book, turn a page and it pops up. Nope, there is more to it with J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World: A Pop-up Gallery of Curiosities. First, it’s a magnetic closure on the front, which opens like doors. then the pop up pages are turned top to bottom, rather than right to left. It has 5 pop up scenes. I like the way it pops up, because you could leave a page on display. Scenes are from both Harry Potter movies and the new Fantastic Beasts. MSRP $27.99
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Newt Scamander: A Movie Scrapbook is a small 8″ x 8″ book with 48 pages of scrapbook style pages that gives you more information about the movie. It is full of movie stills, sketches, photos of props and scrapbook finds. After reading it, you will know more about the characters, time period, historical facts and a peek at fantastic items and creatures from the imagination of J.K. Rowling. You will see how the creatures were created and what else you might find in Scamander’s suitcase. Some of these creatures, niffler and doxy for example, you might have read about but never seen on the screen. Some of the creatures in the book still weren’t in the movie, at least I didn’t spot them, but I expect to see them in the next movie! Overall, a wonderful companion book for the Wizarding World. MSRP $19.99
I would suggest both Candlewick Press books for huge fans of Harry Potter. The are excellent additional gifts for the holiday season!
