With Spring here … and Summer around the corner …. remember to keep BabyLegs packed in your tote, purse and diaper bag. BabyLegs legwarmers are perfect for all ages and all seasons. Babies, Toddlers, Kids, Tweens, Teens and Adults can all benefit from the features and style of these arm and leg warmers.

For Babies, it means you can keep the kids in an easy-access diaper at home but still keep their legs warm enough in air conditioning.

For Crawlers, it can protect their knees from carpet burn when their wear their summer shorts as they get their groove on.

For Toddlers, Preschoolers and Kids, I like them for multiple reasons. One, they just look cool. You can wear matching pairs with shorts. Use one as an Arm Warmer and one as a Leg Warmer for some serious style. I personally like to bring them to the pool. When the kids come out they are often shivering in the breeze, so BabyLegs help warm them up a little quicker. They are also great for additional protection from a steamy sun, offering protection from UV rays.

The BabyCool collection has BabyLegs made with a Rayosan process to provide UPF protection of 50+!

Tweens, Teens and Adults can also benefit from BabyLegs for style, warmth and protection. Is a classroom or office too cold? Keep BabyLegs in a backpack or purse to add some warmth as they study or you work! And for moms who get too much sun while watching their kids play at parks or in the pool, once again BabyLegs is there to offer some sun protection.

Top 3 Picks for Boys:

Top 3 Picks for Girls:

Overall, we love them and I keep a pair close-at-hand all the time! BabyLegs brand is super soft and very durable. They fit my kids when they were babies and still fit now that they are 4 and 6. BabyLegs retail for $10 – $15 each on www.babylegs.com. There are SO MANY styles to choose from! Stripes, Spots, Dinosaurs, Ruffles and tons more. Go ahead and pin your favorites! You can shop by collection, color, gender and design!

I have been looking for the perfect children’s bedding for my 4.5 year old since my mother bought him his “big boy bed”. That means 30 months ago. I was having trouble finding something that fit his style and would grow with him. See, when I bought my oldest son’s bedding, to me he outgrew it too quickly – both in size and style. It just looks too “young” for my soon-to-be six year old.

And, deep down I am not a fan of the character comforter sets you get a Target. And not every comforter set you see online is created equal, which is why it’s so important to read reviews! For example, the comforter set I bought my oldest (back to that one) is so “thin”, mostly for looks and not cuddly. I wanted something plush and perfect to cuddle with, especially since my youngest is such a blanket boy, dragging them all over the house to cocoon himself in.

Detailing on Sham

I knew about Beyond-Bedding for 2+ years, I’d say. And I could easily tell you my top pick for my youngest, oldest and myself. They do specialize in bedding for all ages, separating it into categories from Baby Bedding to Bedding for Adults. They further divide the categories by gender and you can even design your own Custom Childrens Bedding.

Now, my youngest is INFATUATED with pirates. The Pirate of the Caribbean theme song was the first song he ever sang. He has pirate hats, pirate swords, a Captain Jack Sparrow Halloween Costume, Pirates of the Caribbean LEGOs and even the Patch Treasurechest the Pirate LalaLoopsy. I knew I wanted a Pirate Kids Bedding Set, but the ones I saw either looked too young, he’d outgrow it by the time he’s 6. Or they looked like they were designed ONLY for older children. Not something that could cross a few age groups … until I spotted the Treasure Cove Pirate Children’s Bedding.

The Treasure Cove Pirate Children’s Bedding is available in a 4 piece Twin Set or a 3 piece Queen/Full Set. The 4 piece Twin Set included a Twin Comforter (62″ X 86″), 1 Twin Standard Sham, a Twin Bed Skirt , and a Window Valance. The 3 piece Queen/Full set is available for the same price and comes with a Queen Comforter (86″ x 86″) and 2 Standard Shams.

For me, the 3 piece set was a better option since we can’t use a bed skirt on a bunk bed and we don’t need to change the window valance. Plus, my son sleeps with 2 real pillows, 1 pillow pet and 1 cuddle cover. So 2 Standard Shams would be preferred. Finally, I wanted the larger blanket since he loves big, comfortable blankets. Both Treasure Cove Pirate Bedding Sets are available for $109.99, saving you $44 off the MSRP.

I loved the shams. They are easy to slip pillows into and keep the pillow in place. The design is so cool, with the pirate crossbones and double words underneath. The camel edging is like a microsuede while the black is regular cotton material.

The comforter is patchwork quilt, with various pirate-like patterns and designs. The camel, brown and red colors are all micro-suede – very soft and smooth. The other parts of the design are cotton fabrics. My favorite design on the comforter is the skull and crossbones that match the shams. There is also a treasure chest, pirate, pirate ship and the ship’s wheel. On the reverse of the comforter it is a white and red cotton design. Very pirate-y.

I have washed the comforter already and it cleans up nice! I just did a normal wash and dried it in my dryer. Nothing special re: care for it to smell and look clean again.

Overall, I really love this set and so does my son. The reaction’s we’ve gotten from visiting friends and family have all been “cool!” and they want to know where we found it. After this experience, I’d definitely purchase a future set for my other son from Beyond-Bedding.com.

Oldest wearing Double D Blackberry

Since we are in Florida, we spend A LOT of time outdoors. Play dates at the playground. Chilling at the local or my sister’s pool. Beach Days. Beach Vacations. Theme parks. You name it, our Spring and Summer is mostly spent outdoors.

In my day tote – for outings with the kids – I remember to pack snacks for rumbly tummies. Drinks and water to stay hydrated. A tiny first-aid kit for the inevitable ouchies. Sun Lotion to protect against sunburn and skin damage. And finally, sunglasses. My theory is that if I am wearing sunglasses, the kids will need sunglasses. Sunglasses are just as important as Sun Lotion, preventing sun damage. Yes, even eyes can be damaged by UV rays! So you are not fully prepared for an outside outing with the kids unless you have their shades!

Think of how many pairs you own. Right now I own three. (Soon to be 4, once I buy a pair at a cute sunglasses shop I found in St. Augustine!) That is a pair for me to have on my window sill, a pair in my purse and a pair in the car. To ensure my kids have glasses when THEY need them, I keep a pair for them in those same spots. And when I put on my sunglasses, I remind them to put on their sunglasses.

In fact, I just asked my 5 year old why we wear sunglasses. And he told me because you have to protect yourself from the sun. Cute, right?!

And cuter still are the children’s sunglasses styles at my go-to online sunglasses shop – EyesCreamShades.com. Do you know they recently updated their website AND their selection. They have the CUTEST pairs of sunglasses for toddlers, too small for my boys’ heads. They have great styles for boy and girl tweens. And the children’s selection is humongous. I am just waiting for some adult styles so I can match my smashin’ niece one day! *Hint*Hint*

Youngest wearing Grape Ice

The sunglasses from EyesCreamShades are in the mid-prices. They aren’t implulse-buy priced. And they aren’t mega-brand priced. They are perfectly in the middle. And you get what you pay for! Sturdy, stylish sunglasses that will last years. I think my youngest (now 4) has been wearing his Licorice and Ocean Ice for 2 – 3 years. That is AMAZING, right? No lenses have fallen out, no screws have gotten loose.

But here are my favorite Children’s Sunglasses Styles for Spring and Summer 2012:

My oldest can pull off retro colors and styles like no one’s business. His favorite pair of sunglasses was the white Vanilla Malt, which is no longer available. Bummer … except now you can reach for the Double D Blackberry. Double D sunglasses are made for boys, with thicker sides along the temples and a unique lens shape that is more “masculine”. The Blackberry color is the color of a red wine stain, very in. The lenses are polycarbonate and dark grey. The top picture is my 5 year old sporting his at the pool.

My niece wearing Deliciously Diva

I am still a fan of the original Iced Flavors style, which had translucent colored frames and more oval-ish lenses. My 4 year old usually wears blue or black, but for Spring and the upcoming summer he now has a stylish purple option – thanks to Grape Ice. The lenses on these are polycarbonate with a gradient smoke color. You can see him sporting Grape Ice above.

Finally, for the girls you can’t go wrong with either of the Divalicious or Deliciously Diva styles. They really have two different looks for them. For comparison I have my niece sporting both the Divalicious Licorice Ice and the Deliciously Diva Licorice Ice. The easiest way to separate the two styles is that Deliciously Diva has a little more Oomph while Divalicious is more celeb-classic.

For example, Divalicious has the oversized frame with the huge, circular lenses. It’s a solid frame in various colors, Black for Licorice Ice. The lens is polycarbonate, dark grey.

Deliciously Diva, the one with more oomph, has a lens that separates from the frame on the outer sides. The frames are translucent, giving them a smoky appearance. The are also more rectangular on the outer frames, but still over-sized. They have a polycarbonate smoke lens that I just LOVE.

Which one would I choose if I could only choose one … probably the Divalicious line for my niece, who is almost 7. But I have to admit that I’d probably go with the Deliciously Diva frames for tweens.

And I tried on the glasses on my adult head and they just don’t fit. So they are definitely designed for the 14 and younger crowd.

My niece wearing Divalicious Licorice Ice

Whatever style you choose, all EyesCreamShades feature the polycarbonate lenses, which are thinner, lighter and shatter resistant compared to other lenses. And they all feature 100% UVA and UVB protection against harmful ultraviolet sunlight. All of the glasses featured above are $39.95. They will last for YEARS – even when used and abused at the beach and pool!

Bold, graphics-driven design and 3D elements set the collection apart in the bicycle helmet market. Utilizing the company’s patented 3D technology — a soft, rubber-based material — the KRASH collection draws inspiration from a number of sources. For guys, a helmet with ‘liberty spikes’ recalls the punk music scene of the ‘80s. For girls, the company looks toward current fashion and cultural trends to interpret into unique designs. Animal prints make a big statement in KRASH’s debut collection.

Don’t you HATE when you have a favorite pen that just disappears? Maybe your spouse or child took it? A school partner or mom-friend? I mean, it didn’t just walk away by itself!

Or sometimes you are on the other end of the pen disappearance? You suddenly “find” a pen that you love (of course with no owner to claim it). And it becomes your new favorite, safely tucked into a purse pocket, checkbook or planner.

As you know, most pens are nothing different. Boring design, barely acceptable inking capability as you have to scribble and scribble to get it started. But I am having fun writing in my planner with Paper Mate’s latest innovation – InkJoy!

What’s so special about InkJoy? Well, it has the smooth writing capability of a gel pen. But, it won’t smear on your paper and hand, since it dries quickly like a ballpoint pen. And it comes in a rainbow of colors! Pink, Purple, Aqua, Orange, Green, Red, Blue and Black are the colors I am writing in. Pen specialists are already warning users to keep a close eye on their InkJoys, since they are targeted to become the “most stolen pen”.

HOW TO STEAL A PEN:

This was a pen thief in action, but if you are looking to swipe a pen (or ten) – you can pick up a few tips during this hilarious video!

CATCH A PEN THIEF

So, I noticed a hilarious app on the Paper Mate Facebook Page. If you have witnessed or fallen victim to a pen thief, you can report it on their Facebook Page App. You can either win a new InkJoy Pen OR $2,500! All you have to do is upload a photo, fill in a few details about the “event”

JOIN THE CONVERSATION:

I don’t know about you, but I follow PaperMate on Twitter. I’ve been noticing some fun tweets inviting people to join the conversation re: pen thievery. Check it out yourself – and here is one of my favorite tweets!

“There’s an irresistible human urge to steal a pen…” says <s>@</s>robertpaulreyes (http://bit.ly/x9LV6U) When was the last time you stole a pen?

Bamboo CaptureTouch Tablet & the Anime Studio Debut 8.1 Upgrade

So recently I reviewed Anime Studio Debut 8, which is a great beginner animation program. It gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create cool animations to create your own Jib-Jab-like animations. And it only retails for $49.99! You can download a free 30 day trial, too. Well, recently they offered an 8.1 upgrade to allow it to work with Bamboo Multi-Touch tablets.

This upgrade helps digital artists and animators speed up design time and make the entire process smoother. Use simple finger taps and finger gestures to create and adjust characters, objects and scenes, zoom in and out of the canvas, drag and drop, rotate and scale and much more.

I did the upgrade to work with the Wacom Bamboo Capture ($99.95 USD) and found it easy to manipulate the tools and characters. Since I am a beginner with Anime Studio Debut 8, I could easily work from my laptop or the Bamboo Capture seamlessly. It helps that I have over a decade of computer experience, so I am used to using a variety of tools to manipulate tools and screens.

When I had my 6 year old try to use the Bamboo Capture, he had more trouble manipulating the tools. In the end, I think the 8.1 upgrade that allows the Bamboo Capture to be used with Anime Studio Debut 8 is best suited for “older” users, and by that I mean ‘tweens on up. Meanwhile, the Anime Studio Debut 8 itself is great for an even younger crowd, I suggest 8 years on up. That said, my 6 year old is able to make simple animations with my supervision.

More about the Bamboo Capture Pen & Touch
When I connect my Bamboo Capture to the computer via the USB cord, it automatically starts up. You write on the touch pad to have access to a library of apps that you can download for quick use. They have three categories of apps:

Create: editing, making animations, etc.

Play: games

Use: integrate the Bamboo tablet with day-to-day functions on your computer

For the most part, I don’t have too much use for games. I want to create and make the most of my tablet. But what I LOVE about the games is they get you used to using and drawing on the tablet. So what seems like a way to pass time, are actually fun lessons in using the tablet. My FAVORITE game for this purpose is Free the Bird. This game has you draw shapes that a ball will bounce off of. Your goal is to make the ball bounce off the shapes and hit a cage that has a parrot in it. That will cause the cage the open and the bird to be free. I have my 6 year old play this game to understand the tablet more.

Under the Create category, I’ve downloaded and enjoyed Philter (quick photo editor, reminiscent of Instagram or Camera + options on the iPhone) and Animator (just quick animations with a few background choices. Down and dirty animations, similar to what you can do on the LeapPad or Leapster Explorer with Mr. Pencil). There is also Montemarte, which you upload a photo and can give it fun, colorful edits. But really, I don’t have too much use for highlighting hair with neon colors. I prefer the more sophisticated options that Philter offers.

Under the Use category, I’ve downloaded Input Panel, Handwriting recognition. I can actually “write” on the tablet and it will turn it into typed text on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Type or write-whatever your preference.

Just push insert once you are done writing using the Bamboo. I WROTE the above with the pen and it turned it into that nice handwriting and then I pushed insert to get it into this post. Cool, right?

You might also want to upload Bamboo Paper, which is a note taker using your own handwriting. You can save notes as PDFs, erase, use a variety of pen and colors, bookmark pages, etc.

All the apps mentioned above are free.

The Bamboo Capture comes with a “pen” and a USB cord to connect it to the computer. It also included a full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements, which I ADORE. It’s the best photo editing software. Additional software is Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 WE3 and Autodesk Sketchbook Express. You can set the Bamboo Capture for either right hand or left hand use.

There is also a Bamboo Create available, which has a larger digital canvas. It’s MSRP is $199. You can purchase the Bamboo Capture and Create tablets on the Wacom site, as well as on Amazon.

Are you ready to get back to school with Velcro? Right now they have this HUGE online sweepstakes going on, which offers up to $5,000 in prizes! You can win:

Dorm Room Starter Kit – 1 Winner: MacBook Air, InCase 13″ Neoprene Sleeve, Apple Magic Mouse, Apple Wireless Keyboard, Epson All-in-One Printer, $100 iTunes Gift Card

Dorm Life Kit – 3 Winners: Apple iPad, Apple iPad Case, Keyboard Docking Station, $75 iTunes Gift Card

College Necessity Kit – 6 Winners: iPod Nano, $50 iTunes Gift Card

To enter this HUGE sweeps, visit www.facebook.com/velcrobrand. Choose the Back-to-School Sweeps from their sidebar. From there you get to design a ‘virtual’ VELCRO® brand Memo Board and write a memorable 100-word story describing the adventure depicted on their board. A winner will be chosen based on the number of votes their board receives. And every winner will receive 20 Velcro Brand Dorm Survival Kits to share with friends.

I actually entered and had fun with my entry. You can see it below. Get your entry in before the contest ends on September 25th, 2011.

I also have two of these Memo Boards “in real life”. They hang in each boys’ room. One is orange and the other blue. They use little Velcro fasteners to attach “important” and “fun” items on to their board – like cards and drawings. These are great for all school-aged children, college students and offices too. I just suggest hanging these on a hook, as opposed to the tape backing, because the tape backing keeps falling off our walls. A hook has been much more stable for display. These Memo Boards come in fun, fab colors like orange, purple, blue, green and black.

Four Winners! Each winner will receive Velcro Memo Board

Think back to when you were a ‘tween. You’d take 4+ pieces of heavy string and knot them into multicolored friendship bracelets for yourself and your friends. Back then my husband would pin his end and I usually tied my end to a stationary object. But Friendship Bracelet Making has been updated with a neat “on-the-go” tool that will act as a place to “hold” your bracelet as you knot, keep the loose strings in their proper place and also store all your colorful strings. Meet My Friendship Bracelet Maker!

If you know a young girl or boy who likes to get crafty, this is a great gift idea. It comes with directions on how to make the most simple bracelet. But then you can go online for friendship bracelet tutorials (video and pdf format) on making neat patterns – like hearts, penguins, arrows and more. And if you Google, you can even learn how to make your own patterns. My Friendship Bracelet Maker doesn’t limit your creativity, but gives you the jumping off point to really get imaginative.

I enjoyed following the patterns and trying out new things. My favorite bracelet was a skinny purple and pink one. I plan to make a red and white one to match my son’s school colors. And then I am going to finally pass this cool tool to my niece after refilling her string selection. Little packets of strings for the bracelets can be picked up for .15 at most hobby stores.

I know if I enjoyed it, my niece will too. She is 6 right now. I would say this is awesome for girls 6 to 15. The one pictured above is styled for girls, with a pink butterfly and pink and green coloring. There is also a Clip Board Bracelet Maker, appropriate for boys. That one has a circular clip with a peace sign to hold the bracelet and the colors are yellow, blue and green.

My Friendship Bracelet Maker retails for $19.99. You can buy them at toy stores and hobby stores. One of the best places to pick it up, both in stores and online, is Toys R Us.
The common reasoning is, “It’s a tough economy and I’m spending less.” Yet even in the midst of the touch economy, the majority (63 percent) of parents still are excited about back-to-school shopping with one third claiming, “I love school supplies and this is one of my favorite times of year.”

A surprising result from the survey was that dads are planning to spend more than moms, despite a third of them feeling that back-to-school shopping a “necessary evil.” Nearly a quarter of dads plan to spend more this year than last with an average median spend of $210 vs. $171 for moms.

Additional findings from the survey include:

Wallets are Thin: The majority of parents (82 percent) will be spending the same or less than last year on back-to-school shopping, leaving only 18 percent spending more than previous years.

Clothes Preferred over Supplies: More than half (52 percent) of moms are most excited about picking out clothing and shoes, as opposed to the basic school supplies (25 percent), backpacks/lunchboxes (11 percent), art equipment (10 percent) or electronics (three percent).

Dreaded Time of Year: A third (28 percent) of parents referred to back-to-school shopping as a “necessary evil,” and 10 percent said “I’d rather be doing anything else.”

To capture the enthusiasm of back-to-school shopping and help parents during the touch economy, Buy.com launched a back-to-school store that is a one-stop online shopping destination, offering specific school-related sections including Elementary School, Middle School, High School, College and Teachers.

They designed their back-to-school store for parents, teachers and students, to make it simple and convenient to find everything they need whether shopping for elementary school students all the way to college students – all from the comfort of home.
