I love Energizer! Not only is it the battery I turn to most to power my kid’s toys and our emergency flashlight, but they are always coming up with programs to give back to important environmental and social groups AND their customers. Right now they have an Energizer Utility Cash program going on – just look for specially marked packs of batteries to take part.

With the Energizer Utility Cash program, you collect codes from select Energizer battery and lighting products and redeem them online for savings, up to $25 total savings each per person/household/email address, off your own utility bill. You start earning rewards with just two codes and will need 10 codes total to earn the full $25. Or you can help make a positive impact and choose to turn the codes into a donation to Habitat for Humanity®.

You see, Energizer has partnered with Habitat for Humanity® and is working with baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr. to donate more than $300,000 and 1,000 volunteer hours to Habitat through a multi-city series of volunteer projects to help build new homes and revitalize existing homes for those in need.

Whether you use the codes to lower your own utility bill or decide to donate them to Habitat for Humanity, you still need to take advantage of these battery packs.

Here’s how it works:

Collect your codes.

Once you are finished collecting your codes, visit www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/utilities to enter your codes.

You must enter your codes all at once.

The last day to redeem codes is 3/31/13 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

One reader will win two packs of specially marked Energizer batteries. Roughly a $10 MSRP.

Back in October 2010, the Mom Buzz held a fabulously fun give-away where a reader was able to donate a Tag “kit” for classroom use, consisting of 2 Tag School Readers and headphones, plus 2 copies each of 15 Tag books to a school in need through the DonorsChoose.org program. And I am thrilled that 15 months later we get to do another LeapFrog Donation through DonorsChoose.org.

ABOUT DONORSCHOOSE.ORG:

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that connects you to schools in need. They help fund school projects in support of education and literacy. You can narrow your search by a school, state, city, etc. You can also read about their projects and needs – like a new carpet, books, pencil sharpeners, smartboards – and I even saw a request for the beloved Tag Readers! You can choose to give any amount and it tells you how much more they need and what time span they are working on to accept donations. It is really easy to donate.

And regarding that LeapFrog Tag request, there was a note that LeapFrog will fund 50% of this project if someone provides the remainder. That’s because LeapFrog has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to help teachers who want Tag Readers and books for their classroom.

MY CHOICE:

So, the Mom Buzz was given the opportunity to donate $25 to a school in need through Donor’s Choose. It was a hard choice! I would have loved to donate to my son’s school, of course, but the school wasn’t on the list. So I was looking far and wide, trying to choose between PE games, science equipment, butterfly kits and more. But I finally settled on donating to the Jumping Into Learning classroom project requested by Mrs. Garcia on Sep 27, 2011. She only has 22 more days to collect for her cause. What she wants is a Leapfrog Learning Center to assist her students in learning alphabet letters and sounds, numbers, and problem solving activities while building fine motor skills. What can I say, LeapFrog is paving the way for others to help thousands more children to learn to read with Tag™, the #1 selling reading system!

I can definitely approve of her project, since my son had a LeapFrog Tag center in his pre-K and it was successful. Plus, we have Leap Frog products at home where I can actually see my boys learning as they play. So, I made my donation and hope she gets the rest she needs to make this a successful project!

GIVE-AWAY!

Since 2009, LeapFrog has donated more than $1.5 million in Tag Reading Systems and books to the classrooms of more than 20,000 students. And not only did they give the Mom Buzz the opportunity to give $25 to a school project in need, they also have some for one lucky reader:

The Opportunity to Donate $25 to another school in need via DonorsChoose.org

A Tag system with 6 books!

Why not help LeapFrog bring $100,000 total in Tag Readers and books to classrooms in need? LeapFrog has already donated $50,000 and will match donations dollar for dollar up to $50,000!

When I was in college, I remember forking out a lot to purchase our college text books. I tried to save some money by buying them used or off-campus, but it still wasn’t affordable from a college student’s point-of-view. In fact, my brother-in-laws, both their final years of college, have mentioned to me and my husband how their wallets are feeling thin, thanks to purchasing their own text books now. Most of them easily cost over $100 dollars. Multiply that by 5 or 6 classes and OUCH!

But there is another solution to reducing the amount you spend on college books, other than buying used or off campus. You can rent them from CampusBookRentals.com. How does it work?

First, you order online and save up to 90% off the cost of the textbooks

You will get FREE SHIPPING

Use the book as you normally would – highlight, make notes, etc.

Return the books when you are done (FREE RETURN SHIPPING!)

Repeat!

It’s THAT easy! Oh, and if you drop a class, you can return the book within 30 days for a complete refund. If my boys were in college, I’d definitely be saving them (and me) money by going this route. You can rent by semester, quarter, or summer. You can do extensions if needed and re-rent books for 30% less than the original rental price. No matter how you look at it, you are saving money over and over with this process.

If you know what classes you are taking next semester, go ahead and search for those college textbooks you will need online at CampusBookRentals.com. You can search by author, ISBN, author and keyword. Don’t spend any more than you need to for college textbooks!

Learn more about the process of renting text book here: Rent College Textbooks

For EVERY book rented, CampusBookRentals will donate a portion of the proceeds to Operation Smile.

LeapFrog’s Tag. Give. Read. campaign that I’ve been buzzing about for the last month turned out to be hugely successful. So successful that Tinsel Town is on board! “Access Hollywood” personality Jayneoni Moore is launching a parallel program through The Jayneoni Moore Children’s Fund, called “Tag, You’re It!” and they are joining forces to go bigger and put Tag and books into the hands of even more kids.

Jayneoni and her celeb mom pals have been buying Tag Readers to give away to classrooms in need, hoping their campaign will inspire others to do the same. To sweeten the deal, LeapFrog is giving 5 Tag books for each system donated to the cause. And on November 14th, all these moms and their little ones will gather at a “packing party,” to turn a massive pile of donated product into individually boxed “Tag kits” for classrooms. And you could be there!

So how will this all work?

LeapFrog will provide a Tag Reader and the new USA Map to one lucky reader. That winner will also have their name entered to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Hollywood to meet Jayneoni and her celeb mom pals at the “packing party.” LeapFrog will take care of all travel arrangements and expenses for winners, including transportation from home to the airport and back, transportation from airport to hotel, accommodations at The Peninsula Beverly Hills (where the “packing party” will be held), and incidental expenses for meals and refreshments.

True to the cycling theme, rickshaw-bicycles will transport the participants between locations.

All monies raised during this Spin-a-Thon will be donated to the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care, in Harlem, New York. The center has been providing advanced cancer screening and treatment programs for the surrounding community since 2003. The Center performs screening and diagnostic procedures including ambulatory colonoscopies and endoscopies free of charge or at reduced costs to uninsured or underinsured individuals.

The event has taken place successfully for the past five years on Long Island and has generated more than $60,000 in donations. This year’s event will be the first of its kind in Manhattan. The goal for this NYC event is to raise more than $10,000 in donations. The event has been generously sponsored by New York Sports Club, ZICO, and Ice-Qube.

We are a huge LeapFrog house, with all sorts of readers and handhelds that we have been gifted, bought and reviewed. One item that my 2 and 4 year old love is the Tag Jr Reading System. That is like the “little sibling” version of the original Tag Pen and complementing books. Just so you know, Tag Jr is for ages 2 to 4 while the original Tag Reading System is for ages 4 to 8.

MY STORY: So, I guess my oldest son is ready to graduate to Tag books, unlocking new reading adventures and learning new words and skills! It makes sense, since this year is full of new adventures, like his introduction to school with Pre-Kindergarten. He is in school with other 4 and 5 year olds, and it has really helped him develop skills more fully, like writing his name, sounding out words and practicing writing skills! So I am REAL LUCKY that LeapFrog allowed me to designate his school to receive three Tag School Readers and 3 copies of 15 different Tag books! How crazy/lucky/amazing is that?

I told his teacher, Ms. Nicole, on Tuesday at pick-up. They are always looking for tools to help enhance learning – so needless to say she was pretty amazed that this opportunity presented itself. The pre-Kindergarten program is open to all 4 to 5 year olds who are entering Kindergarten the following year. They are made up of different social backgrounds, with the goal to help them be in the same place once Kindergarten starts, so no child is left behind. The Tag Reading System will help with phonics, geography, counting, vowels, sounds, rhyming and more. Talk about preparing kids for Kindergarten!

HOW YOU CAN HELP DONATE TO SCHOOLS IN NEED – FOR FREE! Now, I was able to help a teacher pretty easily, thanks to LeapFrog. But you know – you can Help a Teacher too! It’s so easy – just Fan/Like LeapFrog on Facebook. For each new Facebook fan, they will give a teacher a Tag book (up to 25,000 books). LeapFrog has also donated $100,000 to DonorsChoose.org, to match funds for teachers who want Tag Readers for their classrooms.

HOW YOU AND A TEACHER CAN WIN: We know you love giveaways. So one of you will WIN a Tag Reading System + US Map and 2 additional books for use at home! PLUS – YOU CAN ALSO choose a Kindergarten teacher to receive a Tag “kit” for classroom use, consisting of 2 Tag School Readers and headphones, plus 2 copies each of 15 Tag books.

Okay, yah – so LeapFrog is pretty AMAZING – right? They gave my son’s school 3 Tag School Systems and 45 books. One of you will win a Tag System, Tag Map and 2 books. And a Kindergarten teacher of your choosing will win a Tag School Kit of 2 Tag Readers and 30 books. So don’t miss out – support LeapFrog, teachers and students through one of the entry methods below.

To me, American Girl dolls have always been a “doll” that girls can look-up to, as each doll has a unique story and background of a girl overcoming a challenge in a positive way. But I love how American Girl has found a way to use their influence in an even more positive manner! Little girls can start learning from such an early age about helping others and feeling better about themselves in the process with positive roll models like American Girl!
