All opinions are 100% mine.

Some Express Scripts clients may be disappointed to learn that Walgreens no longer is part of the Express Scripts program. Unfortunately for those clients, Express Scripts was unwilling to negotiate new terms that would keep Walgreens customers satisified, such as holding rates steady, 90 day refills at the pharmacy and discounted rates for military personnel.

I personally find Walgreens super convenient with their 24/7 hours, drive-thru pharmacies and so many locations. Expecting Express Scripts users to drive further to less convenient locations can seem maddening to the clients. You can learn more about the details by reading this AP news article: Walgreens and Express Script Negotiation Details

Walgreens is working to keep all of their pharmacy customers happy, though. So they are offering a HOT discount to promote their Prescription Savings Club that everyone can benefit from, whether you are currently an Express Scripts member or not.

The Prescription Savings Club is an annual membership that normally costs $20 for an individual and $35 for a family. But this January (offer expires January 31, 2012) you can take advantage of a special promotion and join for just $5! Family Memberships are just $10! As part of the Prescription Savings Club you will receive savings on more than 8,000 BRAND NAME medications and all generic medications. In fact, more than 400 generics are available with a $3 month supply for less than $1 a week. Members also receive discounts on flu shots, nebulizers and diabetic supplies.

So if you join the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club this month only, right from the get-go you are saving $15 for your individual membership and $20 for a Family Membership. Awesome, right? And get this, the Family Membership even includes pet prescriptions!!

If you want to keep tabs on more ways to save and stay healthy, be sure to like Walgreens on Facebook and follow Walgreens on Twitter. I follow them every way I can! E-mail subscription, Twitter and Facebook!

For some reason, although Sperm Banks and Cord Blood Banking are nothing new to me – when I heard about Egg Banks I was left scratching my head.

My little bit of knowledge regarding Sperm Banks came mostly from romantic comedies, take The Switch with Jennifer Aniston as a prime example. The romantic lead wanted to get pregnant, so she chose the perfect donor from a sperm bank. Unbeknownst to her, her best male friend switched the sample so she ended up having his baby.

With Cord Blood Banking you are storing the stem cells from your baby in case that baby or their sibling has health complications in the future that stem cells can help cure.

So in the case of an Egg Bank, are you choosing the best egg for your future child? Or is it more like a health issue? For example, if you fear you might not be fertile by the time you are ready to have children. And do you visit the bank when you need an egg, due to fertility problems? Or what are the steps and benefits if you are interesting in donating eggs to a specific or random person? As you can tell, I had a lot of questions. And after doing some research, I thought I’d share my findings with you.

I visited MyEggBank.com, which is an Egg Bank that works with people worldwide. They use frozen eggs from donors to help women who have issues becoming program due to egg quality or quantity. The recipient gets to choose their egg donor, but all donors must meet minimum requirements to be a donor, which includes age, height, BMI, and they even pass a personality test!

If you are interested in donating eggs to help a woman in need, you do get compensated for your time commitment and the egg retrieval process. Not surprising, the amount you earn for donating eggs is more than a man earns at a sperm bank. On average, men receive $35 – $50 per specimen. I checked a few different sites to learn how much women make, which can be between $5,000 – $10,000 per egg retrieval.

After some thought, I wished I was still a good age for donating eggs. You have to be between the ages of 21 and 31.

What do you think? Have you ever donated your eggs or do you think you would donate your eggs now that you’ve learned more?

Back-to-School means back-to-germs! When my oldest entered Pre-Kindergarten last year, it was amazing how often the boys and me got sick. Some of them were REALLY nasty viruses. And although there are all sorts of rules about washing hands and the school did a great job of wiping down surfaces, I learned that what really cut down the colds and viruses was using antibacterial pumps after dropping and picking up my son.

I just received a package of Wet Ones, though, which are supposed to clean better hand sanitizers. They kill 99.9% of germs like hand sanitizers, but they clean better than gels since they actually wipe away dirt and messes without drying out skin.

Germs are spread in school when one student sneezes or coughs and the water droplets reach other students nearby, as well as surfaces that students and teachers touch. As surfaces are touched, the children may wipe their own eyes, mouth or nose introducing the germs into their own body. Washing hands is one great deterrent, but viruses and bacteria can live for hours on all sorts of school surfaces – from doorknobs to desks and cafeteria tables to school computers. And students won’t always be able to wash their hands after each activity. So Wet Ones are an easy, convenient way to cut down on germs.

Wet Ones are available in two fragrances, Fresh and a new and improved Citrus Scent. Antibacterial Wipes come in three convenient packages:

Pocket Size Singles – each individually wrapped and packaged into a 24 pack box

Travel Pack – 15 wipes in a pull up pack, small enough and flexible enough to tuck in a book bag or purse

40 Count Canister – fits into a cupholder and can travel with you on-the-go. Convenient for a classroom too!

To help spread knowledge – not germs – Bill Nye the Science Guy has teamed up with Wet Ones to educate families in a fun, interactive way. Check out his germ experiments at Wet Ones Healthy Hands Zone.

One reader will win a Wet Ones Lunch Tote, 24 ct Wet Ones Singles, 40 ct. He thinks they help boo-boos go away faster – and he is on to something. By cleaning cuts, applying some Neosporin to help fight bacteria and infection and then covering cuts and scrapes with a Band-Aid, you can help keep cuts cleaner and they can heal faster and smoother.

Summer ouchies are bound to happen with active kids – and we love keeping kids busy outside! But between the boys and me, we have stubbed our toes on rough pool steps, fallen and scraped knees outside and received other cuts and scrapes just by running, climbing and playing. So to help take the sting out of the ouchies the kids (and me) really love Band-Aids with fun designs. And there are some hot ones to choose from right now – like my boys really love the Disney Pixar Cars designs, which feature the Cars from Cars 2.

For girls, you’ll probably want Disney Fairies. And I personally love the Phineas and Ferb designs, which is also a great choice for the tweens and teens. The Band-aids come 20 to a box, in rectangular and square shapes. Overall they’re perfect to bring to the beach, camp or on a summer roadtrip! So next time you go to restock your first-aid kit, be on the look-out for the new Disney Band-aids to help make healing fun.

One reader will win a $50 Fandago Gift Card to watch a movie (Like Cars 2) in theaters, along with 3 boxes of 20 ct Band-Aids (Phineas and Ferb, Disney Fairies and Disney Pixar Cars designs) and two tubes of Neosporin.

We are so carb hungry. Reaching for the bagel before eggs or bread before chicken. But protein is what will keep you slender, help maintain muscle and thus burn fat. As a busy mom, I find it hard to find time to eat that protein. So I do depend on supplements like shakes and protein bars to get me through my 6 meals a day.

Recently I’ve tried a new-to-me protein bar called ProMax LS. There were two “light” flavors, Chocolate Fudge and Peanut Butter Chocolate. These bars have less sugar than their other energy bars, with 18 grams of protein. My goal with bars is usually 20 grams of protein or as close as I can get – so 18 is pretty good. They have all natural ingredients and 14 grams of fiber. Promax LS is the first leading protein bar naturally sweetened with stevia, a plant with leaves that are up to 45 times sweeter than sugar and zero calories. There are no artificial sweeteners, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, maltitol, or gelatin. It is gluten-free, kosher, and vegetarian.

Of the two lite flavors, the Chocolate Fudge was my favorite. The outer chocolate covering was perfectly textured and the fudge/brownie center was not too dry, like other bars. It had 18 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar and 56% of your fiber DV.

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Bar, I think had a PB coating. The outer coating was a little thin for me, but my husband loved it. Then the inside is chocolate fudge with a peanut butter center. I couldn’t really taste the PB, though. I NEED MORE! But once again, my husband thought it was a nice change to our other protein bars. The Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Bar had 18 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar and 56% of your fiber DV. I would grab this bar in a fix since it has valuable protein, but definitely the Chocolate Fudge one won me over.

The bars are $1.79 per bar or $16.99 for a box of 12. You can purchase them at most grocery stores, nutrition stores or direct from ProMaxNutrition.com.

I have had allergies forever. I remember it most strongly when I was in middle school. Every morning I would wake up sneezing, which immediately puts a tween in an evil mood. I would make my way to the kitchen, sneezing. I would grab a pack of over-the-counter medicine, while sneezing. Try to pop a pill or two out of the foil, while sneezing. Take my pills with water and then … relief.

After the relief would come drowsiness. During my first class at school, the drowsiness would hit hard and I would struggle to stay awake in my journalism class. But to me, the sleepiness was a small price to pay for the relief from the sneezing.

I continued to have allergies, which depending on the season would be barely noticeable to all-out-sneezing attacks. I have to say this year has been one of the worst, though. I was barely even getting a good night’s sleep, since I would wake up sneezing, have to make my way to the kitchen for my pills and then go back to sleep. And I am not alone this time, my youngest also has seasonal allergies.

There are tips that a family can take to make their home more allergen-free, helping to lessen your discomfort. Some things we’ve done include:

1. Removing carpeting. Carpeting hides dust, dirt and dander.

2. Use pest control. Bugs, like cockroaches, can also cause allergies.

3. UV Light. We use the Oreck Halo Vacuum, which has UV-C technology to take care of dust mites, fleas, bacteria and viruses.

4. Use an Air Purifier to remove impurities from the air, like dander, dust and pollen. We are actually in the market for a new one, since our last one died.

5. NON-DROWSY ALLERGY PILLS! Those are a life-saver, because I can’t be getting sleepy when I have kids to take care of and drive around!

There are also some tips, from long-time allergy sufferer and design expert Sabrina Soto, that meld help you create beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces that are functional and allergy-friendly. You can visit www.facebook.com/claritin to see all 15 tips. Some ideas include:

Many seasonal allergies are caused by specific plants, so get rid of the plants outside that you have control over that are making you uncomfortable – Gladiolas and peonies are good choices for low-allergy plants.

Peak pollen production happens early in the morning. Plan to do your gardening and other outside activities later in the day to minimize exposure to allergens.

When cleaning, use a microfiber or electrostatic cloth to really capture dust so you can remove it from your house – not just move it around or let it fly in the air.

What I learned it that I burn a lot of calories in a day! Approximately 2,000 – give or take 200. That’s insane, since I know many women who are afraid to eat more than 1k calories a day. But I have to say (and have said) if you are eating 1k, you are probably undereating. And when you undereat, your metabolism slows down and your body starts “eating” it’s muscle. And less muscle, means less calories burned … so you gain fat.

I think if everyone wore a BodyFit for a week or so, they would be able to better see the difference between the calories they consume and the calories they burn. And of course, it calculates your steps too. I do prefer resistance training, so it was a challenge to get my steps in … even though I am physically active. Just more with building muscle tone, as opposed to cardio. And every time I forgot to wear the BodyFit to a Zumba class, I wanted to kick myself! LOL! But the days I did my neighborhood walk, Zumba at the gym and played XBox Kinect, my steps were rockin’!

Eye protection is important year round – if you are reaching for your sunglasses, chances are your kids need to be wearing theirs, as well. Kid’s sunglasses not only keep down the glare, but they protect developing eyes from damaging UV rays. And my number one choice for Kid’s Sunglasses is still EyesCreamShades, since they are still the best at combining premium protection with kid-friendly fashion and flavors. Most of their glasses have absolutely delicious names like Choco-Raspberry or Mint Ice!

My boys can often be found ’round town sporting their EyesCreamShades, which I carry in my purse or tote along with my own glasses. I also often throw a pair in the backseat organizer so they can reach for the glasses themselves as needed. At three and five, they already appreciate a glare-free car ride.

Right now my three year old is LOVING the sporty Licorice Ice, which is a pair of shades that blends black and clear on the frame for a cool effect. The lens is a smoky color. He requests these the most often. From the website, I also love the Orange Crush from the Sporty Gradient Collection, with the orange to clear gradient frame and a light orange lens. Those are just cool!

My five year old tens to go for the lighter frames in white and aqua. So the new Double D’s are perfect. They were designed for boys ages 8 – 12, but they fit my son nicely. These Double D’s have a thicker frame with cool accents. There are three colors – Black with Aqua, Aqua with White and Plum with White. They all have a deep gray lens. One of my favorite photos of my son is him wearing the Aqua with White (aka Blue Ice) with the wind blowing through his hair. Just too cool!

Finally… I tend to talk about boy fashions with my two little guys. But there are Divalicious Sunglasses designed for girls around 10 to 14. From the collection the Watermelon (pink) and Lime (green) are translucent with a smoky lens. There is also a deep black lens – totally licorice – with a grey lens. This one is not translucent. The lens are huge and round – totally something a rock star would wear. And I am sure many of you know a young diva! My niece perfectly fits the bill, so I popped the frames on her last Easter to go hunting for eggs. She loved their style and totally rocked the lens.

Check out the new collections at EyesCreamShades.com or get a pair of your old favorites! Superior quality, superior protection. Frames range in price from $22.50 to $85.
