For about a year now I’ve heard the buzz about PowerMat. My husband had an iPhone and we had a few iPods floating around, so I was interested in how you can charge multiple devices and only use one outlet. Then it happened … I got an iPhone, too. And I have to say, I am in LOVE with it. I’ve had it for about 8 months and it’s the best phone I’ve ever had, really allowing me to stay connected through IMs, photos, social networks … and of course conversation. But now there always seemed to be an iPod or iPhone charging SOMEWHERE in the house.

The PowerMat has completely simplified our iLifestyle. I plugged in the PowerMat on my dresser. The black color completely matches my black dresser, so it blends in rather than cluttering it. We put an iPhone Receiver on my husband’s phone, which acts as a case as well to protect the phone from damage/ being banged around. And trust me – you want a case on your iPhone! I had a regular case (not a sturdy PowerMat phone case) on mine and it cracked – which is a bummer. But if the case didn’t crack, it would have been my phone. Cases are important. Cases that allow an iPhone to charge just by setting it down on a PowerMat are insanely cool and easy.

Now, if you are ATTACHED to the case your iPhone does have, you can simply charge your iPhone using the PowerCube Universal Receiver. This is a white cube that has a whole bunch of end pieces that match it up with different electrical devices. I was using that with my iPhone until my cool case cracked. Then I started using the sleek, professional looking iPhone Receiver/Case.

So here is the down and dirty of what the PowerMat is and how it works. The PowerMat plugs into your wall socket and with that one electrical socket being used, you can charge up to 3 devices. There are two PowerMats available that charge 3 devices at a time, a sleek desk top model and a roll-able Portable Mat that comes with a carrying case. They both costs $99 – I would suggest the Portable one. You can also purchase a 2x PowerMat (charge 2 wireless devices – $79.99) or simply get the wireless kit to charge 1 iPhone ($69.99)

You NEED a receiver of some sort to allow your electrical devices to work with the PowerMat. The receiver case for the iPhone is $39.99. It snaps around your iPhone, giving it a “bumper” in the front and completely covered in the back. It has a section on the bottom that inserts into your iPhone, charging it when simply placed on the mat. Other receivers are available for other electronic devices, like docks for the iPod, receivers for Blackberrys and a back panel for Nintendo DS. And don’t forget, the PowerCube Universal Receiver, which is included with the Portable Powermat, has 8 “tips” that let it work with a lot of GPS’s, Bluetooth headsets, PSPs, Samsung phones, etc.

If you have three devices that need charging, you are likely going to spend at least $99 on the Desktop or Portable PowerMat, spend between $60 to $80 on two additional receivers, and then use the included Powercube Universal Receiver. So it would be between $159 – $179 to get properly set up charging your devices. That said, iPhone owners, college students, as well as parents of kids with iPods, Nintendo DS’s and PSPs, are going to love that they don’t have random electronic devices charging EVERYWHERE in a tangle of cords. This is a cool, practical gadget that makes a great gift – and Christmas IS just around the corner. You can even gift it as a graduation gift … or a “have fun in college” gift!

See it in action:

Overall, the PowerMat works great. It charges up our wireless devices without a problem, battery life is great after charges, charges quickly and all we have to do is drop our phones and go. It’s just AWESOME! Completely buzzworthy. Absolutely love it.

So, the winner will get 1 Receiver, a Portable Mat, Power Supply, Travel Case and Universal Receiver.

When I was growing up, there were certain pieces of jewelry that my mom owned that I just loved. One was a gold plated leaf. So simple, delicate and pretty. It is definitely not something you would find in a traditional jewelry store. So I was THRILLED when I saw a similar piece of jewelry on NOVICA, a leading fair trade artisan website that is affiliated with National Geographic.

NOVICA gives talented artisans from around the world a place to express their talents and provide access to the world market. Jewelry is just one small portion of their site, where you can find everything from home decor to children’s toys. But at this moment, I have to gush about the Jewelry Selection from one particular artist from Thailand – Danai. She creates exquisite jewelry from coffee beans, leafs, orchids and more. You will find both gold and silver jewelry in her collection.

Not only does she have a natural gold plated leaf necklace, which reminds me of my mom’s necklace, she also has preserved a natural orchid in silver on a strand of pearls, and she has preserved various other flowers to create breath-taking sterling silver jewelry and gold selections.

Honestly, I think I could give gifts to the women in my life for the next few years easily by choosing pieces from Danai’s creations. Currently I’ve been wearing the sweetest gold plated natural orchid flower necklace called ‘Timeless Dancer’. The orchid is small, about the size of a nickel. But the color is brilliant, with a luminous red accented by gold and white. And it only costs $25.49. Two other pieces that really struck me as must-haves was a chrysanthemum blossom preserved in resin and centered on a leather cord, along with a huge (approx. 1.5″ in height) blue orchid, gold-plated brooch. One reminded me of of my mom and the other of my grandmother-in-law.

There really is something from Danai for every woman, from nature-loving to prim & proper. She sells brooches, necklaces, earrings, and chokers. The quality is outstanding. My own necklace is sturdy, not breaking under the tugs of preschoolers and toddlers. I shower and swim in it, and it is just as gorgeous as the day it arrived. I expect that the chrysanthemum blossom and blue orchid will wear just as well!

Overall, I had filled my shopping cart up way too much and too fast with jewelry from NOVICA. You can bet I’ll be back for more for birthdays, holidays, Mother’s Day and more!

I am so excited about my new “coffee maker”, the Tassimo. Why – well, because it’s way beyond the capabilities of good ol’ Mr. Coffee. The Tassimo is actually a Home Brewing System for people who like their coffee perfect. That’s because it’s more than just pouring hot water over ground beans. Instead, the Tassimo uses T-Cups that are prefilled with coffee, milk, syrup or tea – depending on your drink of choice. Each T-Cup has a bar code on it and the Tassimo will scan and read the bar code to ensure the right temperature is used to brew your latte, cappucino, hot chocolate, tea or coffee. How amazing is THAT?

It’s uber easy to use. I’ve gone through one “pack” of Starbucks Latte Primo and one pack of Milka Hot Chocolate. I LOVE the Starbucks Latte Primo. Better than getting it at Starbucks, even! The pack costs $10.99 and includes 8 creamers and 8 coffee T-Discs. So that is around $1.37 per cup in the end. I add two Truvias to my latte and it comes out sweet, strong and perfect. Unfortunately, as much as I would buzz about and say I love the Starbucks Latte Primo, the Milka Hot Chocolate isn’t sweet enough or creamy enough for me. Sorry Milka!

I did just order two more packs of T-Cups to try, the Jacobs Latte Macchiato and Maxwell House French Vanilla. The Jacobs is $9.99. It is supposed to be velvety milkiness, a touch of sweetness and an intense espresso, topped with fine foam. It includes a real milk creamer T DISC, then add the intense flavor of a Jacobs Espresso. It would be around $1.25 for a cup of coffee. The Maxwell House French Vanilla is a medium roast, medium body coffee made from high quality Arabica beans. It costs $5.99 for 16 T-Discs, 8 would be the coffee and 8 would be creamer I think. So that would be 75 cents per cup.

Lots of people like to compare the Tassimo to the Keurig, but they are two different machines with different results. The Keurig brews your coffee. The Tassimo heats the beans and the creamer to the right temperature to create a truly delicious coffee. I think the Tassimo makes a better coffee than the Keurig. I do think the Keurig has better hot chocolate, though. But, I don’t drink Hot Chocolate every day. I do drink coffee every day.

K-Cups are cheaper than T-Cups, on average. T-Cups are cheaper than stopping at Starbucks or another coffee joint to get your coffee. And Tassimo coffee is superior, from my experience.

I would love for Tassimo to find a way to create “reusable” T-Cups that you can fill with your own coffee and milk, though. Here is a video to show how easy it is to use the Tassimo, though. I am making Milka Hot Chocolate.

The home brewer above is just $129, is slim and compact. As you can see, it makes one cup of coffee at a time, whatever the user wants … as long as the T-Discs are on hand! There are two other options, the Tassimo Suprema in Red or Silver/Black or the LCD Premium.

Although I keep it simple, just making cups using the T-Cups, there are creative coffee recipes that you can find at Tassimo. The Butterscotch Creme Cafe, Irish Cream Coffee, and Peppermint Hot Chocolate all sound great for entertaining.

You can stay up to date with Tassimo on Twitter and Facebook. I am a fan of both!

This is solely the opinion of the Mom Buzz. So I zipped on over to Mimoco and ordered each of them a MIMOBOT – designer USB flash drives. I bought a HALO MIMOBOT for the younger one and the Darth Vader USB Flash Drive for the older one. I thought the older one would think it was hilarious that when you removed Darth Vader’s USB “top/mask” that you would see his face. And there is a 1 in 6 chance that the Darth Vader MIMOBOT Drive will have a Classic Darth Vader pale, white face.

I actually don’t know which face my Brother-in-Law got. (I swear… brother-in-laws. Snort. Communication is not big on his to-do list.) But when I told Mimoco.com about Star Wars Week, they sent me one to review. And lucky me, we DID get the classic Vader face! :woot: :woot: My husband was already thrilled about getting Darth Vader, but having the 1/6 shot of getting Pale Vader was just exciting.

There is one other Star Wars Designer USB Flash Drive that can be “unmasked” and that is Clone Captain Rex, but his face is “normal” under his helmet. Other Star Wars characters that you can purchase are Darth Maul, Wicket, C-3PO, Darth Sidious and the Emperor’s Royal Guard.

As a bonus, the Star Wars Mimobot Series includes exclusive wall papers, screen savers, icons, avatars and sound software. Obviously, to access them you plug in your MIMOBOT. Open DarthVader. Unzip the files. And go for it. Avatars and icons included Darth Maul, Vader, Clone Rex, Medical Droid and more. Screensavers were available for mac and pc. It was actually pretty funny as MIMOBOT Characters were interacting around my screen and floating by in space. There were also wall papers for MAC and PC. The only file I didn’t open was the sound file, I don’t use the sound on my laptop too often, so I skipped that part.

The Darth Vader I received was a 2GB Flash Memory Drive, which is only $29.95. The 4 GB is $39.95. There is also an 8 and 16 GB option. The actual usable memory size is less than stated in the product specification due to flash memory design, testing and formatting. I think the range of prices and the characters in the series make this a great gift for all occasions, like going to or graduating highschool or college, stocking stuffer, Easter Basket gift, birthdays, new job or just because. For example, to celebrate Star Wars Weekend at Disney!

Of course, Mimoco has more than Star Wars. You will also find flash drives for Hello Kitty, Domo, Halo, just to name a few options.

One reader will win their choice of Mimobot, up to a 4GB Memory.

Well, forget about traditional gift cards to a restaurant, instead imagine gifting an exciting dinner that is beautiful, delicious and educational! I am talking about Recipe Kits from Destination Dinners!

Dinner Kits make cooking authentic international dishes fun and easy. Each Kit includes premeasured amounts of hard to find spices, sauces and dried ingredients, preparation instructions, a shopping list for fresh ingredients (easily found at your local grocery store), table setting suggestions and fun facts and trivia about the destination you are “traveling” to. Kits range in price from $25 – $30 and feed between 4 and 10 adults depending on the kit.

Right now they have some kit ideas for the holidays:

NEW FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Gift Sets and Dinner Party Kits featuring:
Hand Carved Lotus Cocktail Plates
Palm Leaf Dinnerware by VerTerra
Bamboo Cooking and Serving Tools of all sorts!

The Kits are great for all ages, since younger children can help pour the premeasured ingredients. The kits can also make for an interesting date night, for someone who wants to “set the mood” with their spouse or date. Or use one when the inlaws are coming over for a dinner that is sure to impress!

It is the Crayola Digital Camcorder, which is like a mini version of adult camcorders … but designed just for kids. Although, I have to admit that many grown-ups will be jealous how easy it is to use this kid-friendly camcorder.

This thing is tiny in my hands, but the perfect for a little 5 year old. It has a great 1.5″ preview screen, a built-in microphone, can take digital photos and includes video editing software. This video editing software (Video Genie) lets your child add music, personalize and stylize videos, credits and special effects to their home movies. The CD has five activity centers. These include the photo editing software (Color Genie), story maker, puppet show, photo frames and jigsaw puzzles. The camcorder comes with a USB cord so you can upload all of the video files to your computer. You can also connect the camera to your tv to watch videos.

To fully enjoy the Crayola Camcorder, you will need:

Win 2000/XP, Win VISTA or MAC OS X Ver. 10.2.6 or later. The camcorder takes 3 AA Batteries, which are not included. You also need a super, small phillips screwdriver to insert the batteries. The Crayola Digital Camcorder is designed for children 5 and up. For this review I let my 3.5 year old play with it, though, and he did AWESOME. He is quite tech savvy, so this was perfect for him. You will also want to get a SD Memory Card to fully enjoy the capabilities of this Camcorder. The SD Memory Card is not included with the package.

Overall, I find the camera to be lightweight, easy to use and loads of fun. I’ve seen it with both green and purple accents. You can purchase it on Amazon or Toys R Us. The price range that I’ve seen goes from $55 to $69.00 dollars. Definitely check out Amazon for a good deal! It’s made by SAKAR International.

SAKAR also has designed a digital camera with rubberized grips that includes many of the great activities that the Camcorder has, including the Color Genie photo editing software with five activity centers: photo editing center, story maker, puppet show, photo frames, and jigsaw puzzles.

To view video quality, see the clip below. Warning, it was taped by an almost 4 year old. It has a Blair Witch feel to it.

I absolutely love the WowWee Animal Alive Cubs and Minis that we have in our house. And I knew that the robotic experts at WowWee also designed other uber-cool robots, like Wrex the Dog and RoboSapien. But, I didn’t know they made these little, simple cars called ZipBots.

NASCAR Zipbots come two cars in a set. The set my boys received had #88 (Dale Ernhardt Jr) and #14 (Tony Stewart). THe cars about an inch long and they run on bristles as opposed to wheels. They run on button cell batteries and they come with batteries installed, plus 2 extra batteries. You are going to need a super, small screw driver to open their battery case to change batteries. There is a tiny switch on the bottom of the car that you can use to turn the car on. Then the bristles vibrate and cause the car to run along the track.

My little ones had fun with it. They played on the track for a while and then I moved it to our train table, since the cars wouldn’t fall off that. You could even put them on the floor, but my dog was very intrigued by it, as it moved along like a bug driving a car. It was hilarious from my standpoint, and my husband’s too. After a day of hard play, the battery died in Dale Earnhardt Jr’s car. I guess that means Tony Stewart won!

When I first was going to play with these cars with my boys, I was nervous about how fast they would zip. But it’s not very quick – but just quick enough for a novelty item or a distraction at grandma’s. You can also get a set with #24 (Jeff Gordon) and #48 (Jimmie Johnson). It’s awesome that they come in a set, since you can race against friends and family members.

Here are the cars on their track. I liked them better on the train table, though.

Overall, this is a great gift for a NASCAR Enthusiast, as well as a stocking stuffers for car-lovers and little boys. A set only costs $9.99. You can get a single car for as low as $4.79 right now at Radio Shack!

Even I got into the swing of it, giving my son a White Tiger Cub. I’ve read several reviews on them, with a range of opinions. Personally, I loved it and still do after owning it for 11 months. It became my sons Lovey quickly and he named it Meow.

I was worried that the white fur would get dirty, since my little one is so messy. But the White Tiger Cub still looks and sounds great. We’ve only had to change it’s batteries once. I love the range of sounds he makes and he “falls asleep” after a few minutes – he will even snore. To “wake him up”, you just push a button on his ear. Then by petting it’s head, rubbing its belly or cuddling him in your arms will allow him to make many realistic noises.

You can hear the mechanics in these realistic, animatronic animals, but it is soft. Overall, my toddler LOVED it and I always kept an eye out for them at the store, thinking it would make a great gift for my nephews and niece. And throughout that time I saw new animals pop up in the WowWee Animal Alive Collection. You can choose from a lion, seal, koala, leopard, orange tiger, husky, panda and polar bear. They cost approximately $49.99.

If you want something with the same “Wow” factor but a lower cost, you’ll want to check out the WowWee Alive Minis. These are smaller versions of the Animal Alive Cubs, with a few less features. They look like newborn animals, and sound like them too! They have the same smart technology that let’s them know when they are picked up, they fall asleep when you leave them alone and you can “bottle feed” these little furballs. He’ll even make feeding noises, as well as open and close his eyes.

I had the chance to see the Leopard Mini up close. It could fit in the palm of my husband’s hands. It reminded me of my puppy when I first got her, just small and always asleep. The small size makes it easy for any child to hold and cuddle. I loved his sounds, which were more like chirps than mews. And my boys love all of the noises it made! I like the tan color of the leopard, with the dark spots. I imagine it will be hard to tell if it gets a little dirty. And I expect that it will withstand to the same amount of play that our White Tiger Cub had in the past year. His eyes opened and closed and I could open his mouth to give him a bottle.

The mini leopard is meant for ages 3 and up, making it a great gift for a preschooler! They retail for approximately $19.99. It takes 2 AA batteries. You can purchase all WowWee Animals, both the full size and minis, at Toys R Us!

I received the S-Pod for review. I loved how small and compact it was, making it inconspicuous. It’s black with little vents on the front that you can adjust to let out the right amount of fragrance for you. It’s perfect for the car, just clip it to a visor. Or I could also have it free standing in my work space, so that I get the fresh scent I want. To get it started, you open the small compartment and place a gel insert inside. I received Strawberry Fields, which smelled like I had a Strawberry Shortcake Doll working with me. I think I also would love the French Vanilla scent, although Calm Waters and Mulberry are also options.

When you make your purchase from PartyLite, don’t forget to pick up a pack of TeaLights! They are useful to have, can set a mood in when placed in a tealight holder and makes any room more inviting when used with a melts warmer.

When I think of Aroma Home, products that bring warmth and comfort for family and friends are what come immediately to mind. Cozy Slippers, Stuffed Animals, Scarves and more, most with a relaxing scent of essential oils. But they also have some awesome novelty items, which make great stocking stuffers or novelty gifts for friends, coworkers and employees. For example, they have cute, plush screen wipes that will clean and reduce static on all computer monitors, laptops and LCD screens.

Aroma Home’s Screen Wipes have bodies that are easy to grasp, they will not scratch your screens, and you can use them over and over again! Plus, they are a cute addition on any desk, and calming too as they you get a whiff of lemon zest and chamois emitting from their tummies! The plush screen wipes are available in six fun animal designs – duck, elephant, pig, gorilla, tiger and giraffe.

I had a chance to see the pig and gorilla up close. At home my laptop screen gets quite dirty and dusty, courtesy of a toddler and preschooler. The pig did get the dust collecting on the keyboard and screen off without any harm to my laptop. Plus, I used it on my tv screen which had a lot more dust than I could have imagined. *whoops* And it came off in a few swipes. Then I just shook off the pig and put it on top of the tv. You can also sponge clean your screen wipe. The pig has fluffy hair everywhere except her pink tummy, there it is more smooth. The gorilla has smooth hair everywhere.

There are some instructions that you do want to read ahead of time. Unlike some other Aroma Home products, there is no need to heat up your plush screen wipe. And since it is not a toy, you want to keep it in your office or home-office. Also, there is no need to use your plush screen wipe with other cleaning agents. Just wipe any screen and reduce the static and remove the dust.

Overall, I think this is a cute, affordable gift ($10). And it’s a great add-on when you are shopping for other awesome gift ideas at AromaHome.com!

Save 10 Percent of all Aroma Home Orders! Just use discount code HOLIDAYTEN! This code is good until 12.31.09!
