It seems like you can always find some fabulous deals at Sears. Especially if you are already have your eye on deals for spring and summer clothes for the kids. Personally, I am on the look out for athletic shorts and sleeveless shirts for my boys to keep them cool and comfortable in the growing heat. Normally I shop at Target or Children’s Place, but lately I have been keeping an eye out for deals and that’s where Sears promo codes come in!

I can save up to 50% when shopping at Sears thanks to daily deals, special savings and special offers. From decking out your patio to grill for guests to apparel for the whole family, Sears easily covers most of your needs. And their clothes are cute! Like I said, first I was looking for summer clothes for the boys. I found casual jersey shorts for just $9.97 each and, even better, pull-on paid shorts for just $7.97 each!

For tops I found these youth muscle shirts in a variety of options. I might just pick up all four – two for each of my boys. And these shirts are just $7.97 each!

For me, I am in love with these Maxi Dresses. They are only $29! That is a fraction of the price I’ve seen at other stores. I am ready to place my order, if I can only decide on a pattern. I might go for the all black one. :swoon: Perfect for day or night, from strolling on the beach to nighttime functions. It’s a perfect Florida summer dress!

And even though I don’t have a girl, I found these cute capris that were too cool not to share if you are shopping for a girl 7 or younger. They are only $13.99! I wish they had these in my size.

So those are some of my top picks for summer wear for moms and their kids! You can always find deals at Sears. And you can find super deals for many of your favorite stores, like Sears, at CouponSnapshot. For Canadian readers, visit CouponShapshot.ca. American readers will want to visit the .com site!

In my area, there are three ways I “Spring Clean” and move out unused toys and outgrown clothes. I either sell them on CraigsList, have a Garage Sale or I pass them on to friends and family.

With the CraigsList, there is always a certain amount of “Stranger Danger”. You are letting a stranger meet you at your home, meeting at their home or meeting in a location. None of it is really perfectly safe. And face it, the process can be tedious, especially with no-shows and last-minute hagglers.

Garage Sales are full of bargain hunters. Sell an item for .50 and they offer .25. Sell a bike for $10, they offer $5. You never really make up the time and effort during a garage sale.

Appreciative friends and family are the best, but you have to part with an item you were maybe hoping to get a little “fun money” with to shop for new clothes and toys.

So, let me introduce you to a new way to trade and sale your gently used toys and clothes – Palcycle.com!

My shorty when Potty Training

One thing that parents both are eager to begin, but fear the process, is Potty Training. I know that when I started Potty Training my oldest son I was wondering how successful we’d be, but I went in “pretending” that success was right around the corner. And in my arsenal I had tips from my sister who potty trained my niece successfully, before she turned 2. My son was in underwear at his second birthday.

And seventeen months later, I took on the challenge of Potty Training my second son. This time the process was even quicker, and I had a second son in underwear by his second birthday. With my success in Potty Training two boys before they were 24 months old, I wrote an article for SocialMoms.com called Ten Tips for Potty Training Boys. I specified boys for two reasons. One – I never potty trained girls. Two – there is a “myth” that boys are harder to train, but I haven’t found it to be true between my boys and their friends. Although truthfully, I believe all my tips can be utilized for Potty Training girls, sans the learning to pee standing up.

That said, number THREE on my list of Potty Training Tips was to utilize Potty Training videos.

Stock up on your library. There is a wide array of options out there. You can purchase potty training books and videos online or even borrow them from the library.

Now, I am past potty training kiddos, unless my husband and I have “number three”. But new videos have been coming out to the marketplace that you can add to your Potty Training video library. One such video is Potty Time, filmed by Two Little Hands Productions. If their name sounds familiar, they are the same production company that developed the much-acclaimed Signing Time, which is aired on Nick Jr and public television.

Potty Time preview from Signing Time.

Potty Time is designed for children between the ages of 1 and 5 and will work with a myriad of potty training techniques. The video won’t teach your child to Potty Train just by watching it, but I find that videos like these do help children make that association a little easier. Especially when done in a fun way that combines music and videos.

Potty Time teaches about the body and the potty process through 9 songs. They work seamlessly from one to another, thanks to Potty Time host Rachel Coleman. It uses a combination of live action, real children in a studio and, of course, Rachel signing and singing. As you watch the video the first time, keep in mind that she’s working towards the more specific potty talk – she doesn’t just jump in. The Potty Dance (track 4 or 13) is when they really get to using the potty, wiping, flushing and washing hands.

What Makes Potty Time Different than other Videos?

What makes Potty Time unique is that it also incorporates signing into the video. Many of my mom friends taught their children how to sign when they were infants and toddlers, so this video would appeal to them. And the signing also makes this video wonderful for our youngest potty trainers, who may be too young to use specific potty words but can learn the signs to signal they have to use the potty. Potty Time teaches MANY different potty signs, including Potty, Grow, Clean, Help, Flush, Body, Wash Hands and many more. I also like that it can make a potty conversation more “private”. Rather than your child having to say, “I have to pee/poo” – they can now give the sign for it.

MORE THAN A VIDEO:

Although I suggest adding the video to your library, Potty Time also has additional support available. Here is the full line of products available to you.

Potty Time DVD: This DVD shows music videos with real people and animated characters that help children feel good about growing up and trying something new – using the potty!

Face it, as parents we spend a lot of time trying to keep the kids engaged and entertained in enriching ways. We don’t want them just to sit with their handhelds or game systems, letting their brains and butts go numb as time passes. I personally spend a lot of time searching blogs, Pinterest and websites looking for fun, cool ideas that they’ll love – from making mini-volcanoes to snowman tie-dye shirts.

But … there is a new website worth pinning, since it’s practically a one-stop-resource for kid’s crafts, recipes, science experiments and activities. CloroxRecipesforFun.com encourages making a mess while having fun and learning – and of course, they think clean-up is a snap with Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner.

ULTIMATE MESS PARTY SWEEPSTAKES:
And to celebrate this buzz, they also launched the Ultimate Mess Party Sweepstakes – where you can clean up with prizes! One grand prize winner will win $10,000 towards an Ultimate Mess Party. You can also win instant prizes every day, just by registering, viewing projects or sharing a craft, recipe or activity. The messier the better, in my opinion.

By sharing a recipe for fun, you’ll get: An instant $1.00 coupon towards Clorox Clean-Up & 10 grand prize entries towards the Ultimate Mess party

Instant prizes for viewing recipes may include: Free Clorox Clean-Up Coupons or $100 Gift Cards towards various popular retailers. Prizes are awarded randomly.

FUN KID’S RECIPE FOR FUN:

Entering a recipe for fun is easy. Just think of the last craft or project you did with your kids! Which category does it fall under – Wacky Science, Arts and Crafts, Kiddie Cooking or Creative Cooking? Honestly, besides Valentine’s Boxes and Homemade Birthday Cards, my last favorite project was the snowmen shirts I did with my youngest son. And yes, we all got a little “blue” from it. You can see complete steps and pictures of my tutorial here: Snowman Shirts. But, here are the “down-and-dirty” instructions.

MATERIALS:

White t-shirts

Simply Spray in various shades of blue

Something to “block” the spray on the shirt. I used 3 vitamin container tops of various sizes

Fabric Markers

Buttons, bells, etc as desired

Towels or something to cover the spray area

Plastic to stick inside the shirt to keep the paint from passing to the other side,

Directions:

Place a white t-shirt on your working top.

Place your container tops onto the shirt in the shape of a snowman.

Scrunch the shirt all around, making sure to maintain your snowman

Spray a color of your choice on the shirt

Unscrunch shirt and then rescrunch in a different way.

Spray a second shade onto the shirts.

Keep spraying and scrunching until you have a pattern you like.

When you are done with the front, remove your circles. Then put that piece of plastic or an old shirt into the original shirt and turn the shirt you are designing upside down. Now scrunch the back of the shirt and spray using the same method as before.

When you are done spraying, hang the shirt to dry for 72 hours.

Wash the shirt and dry, as per package directions.

Now you can add snowman features using Fabric Marker and/or t-shirt paint. Follow manufacturer directions re: washing and drying.

One the features are in place, you can sew on buttons or bells, if desired, to accessorize your shirt.

They have many tools on their website to help you land the perfect job, from resume samples to interview prep. Well, they just released a new Professional Social Networking App that runs on Facebook. Rather than reinvent the wheel, they are utilizing a social network that most tech-savvvy adults are already on and are familiar with, but with the goal of networking professionals who can help each other grow.

You aren’t starting from scratch with BeKnown. Instead you can tap into your existing networks of Facebook friends, so you can easily connect, send messages, and see who among your existing contacts is connected to a company, job opportunity, or person you are interested in. BeKnown allows you to keep your professional and private lives separate on Facebook. If you want to learn more, check out the BeKnown Guided Video Tour.

Since BeKnown is a Monster.com app, you can also conduct a job search of Monster’s database of jobs without ever leaving BeKnown or Facebook. There is also a mobile version of the app, so you can take your networks with you on your iPhone or Android devices.

Many SAHMs (stay-at-home-moms) are in quandary. While we are in an ongoing recession, gas prices and food prices seem to keep going up. Talking to moms locally and online, I know that they are looking for part time jobs to help take the pressure of being a full-time breadwinner off Dad. And it’s not just the SAHMs, one of my very best friends who works a great 8-5 job is always looking for a way to bring in extra income to help defray day-to-day costs. So where can you look?

It seems as if a website like Monster or Career Builder should be the answer, but I always found that it was easier to use those mega sites to find full time positions. And the part time jobs they listed usually weren’t compatible with a SAHM or working mom’s schedule. What sites might interest you?

1. In the USA HireMyMom.com is a popular choice. The companies that post jobs are searching for MOMS to fill their positions. They know that many qualified applicants that choose to stay at home with their children, but have the professional skills needed to fill positions in administrative, research, writing, graphic design, editing, accounting, web design, customer service, virtual assisting, coaching, sales, marketing, public relations, bookkeeping, legal, desktop publishing, creative arts, medical billing, ecommerce, strategic planning, database development, payroll, human resources, and more.

2. Internationally, you would want to connect with WorkingMums.co.uk. This UK site connects working “mums” with home-based, part-time and full-time positions. Once again, since the companies seeking to fill positions know that most applicants are mom, they will be able to offer flexible and compressed hours to fit your schedule. When I was buzzing around their site, I loved seeing keywords like Flexible and Homeworking.

3. A lot of moms I know are also having great luck with CraigList. You probably need to search carefully or you might have to sanitize your eyes like the Creative Junkie. But the opportunities are out there, especially for social media savvy moms.

4. Another option is simply to create your own part time job. My friend has become quite savvy with Amazon lately. She has friends who give her unwanted stuff (that may be new or in good condition) and then she sells it on Amazon. Then she splits the profit with her friend! When she told me about her success, I told her she needed to start scouring Garage Sales for “steals and deals” or go to those Storage Auctions to buy a unit and then resell the items for a profit on Amazon.

5. Finally, target small employers. Usually it’s who you know, not what you know, to get into smaller companies that may be local to you. By the time a position opens up, they already filled it with a friend-of-a-friend or a guy so-and-so knows. (I was asking my husband, a bank manager, how some of his professional clients (doctor offices, lawyer offices, etc) fill their admin positions and that’s what he told me.) They might need your experience in handling communications, appointments, dealing with press and social media, but need to know you want the job before they know they need to fill it. So drop by, meet the office manager or owner and drop by an application to show your interest in a part-time position in person.

Those are my top ideas on getting that Part-Time position for mom. But I NEED to hear from you guys too! Are you currently looking or have you already found a part-time position? What did you use to locate a job? Or tell us your not-so-successful stories too so we can learn from your experience.

ADDITIONAL READER SUGGESTIONS:

Antonia from Keen to Help suggests trying Zazzle.com – where you can put your design on an array of apparel and accessories and earn moola for each item sold.

Moms like you do tons of research, reading review after review, and then make your decision on what to purchase and for how much. But it takes the fun out of shopping with friends … or does it.

Don’t you sometimes wish you could get your BFF’s opinion on a purchase, even though she lives 2 hours from you. Or your husband’s thoughts – even though he is away on a business trip. Well, Buy.com has this FABULOUS and FUN feature which enables consumers to virtually “Shop Together” by providing features to share shopping experiences in real-time, make recommendations and spontaneously chat about product features and feedback through an instant messenger (IM) experience directly on Buy.com.

Features include:

Instant chat sessions with friends who are shopping on Buy.com and logged in through Facebook Connect

Integration with Twitter and other social networks

Simultaneous product browsing

Ability for shoppers to redirect a friend, with permission, to the page he/she is viewing

Real-time viewing of the most popular items on Buy.com

Private chat sessions with Buy.com Customer Service support

The first time I logged on to Buy.com, I wanted my sister’s opinion on some LEGO sets. Unfortunately she wasn’t online at the time, so I merely sent her a Facebook message through Buy.com asking her thoughts. But, what good does that do when I really wanted the INSTANT pleasure of making a decision right there and then, right?

Well, a week later I logged on again … this time I was at my sister’s house. I was tooling around trying to decide what to purchase and saw my hubby was online too! Which is perfect, since then he could help me decide if I should spend some money on me or the kids. I chose to “Shop Together” from the right hand side of the page. On this side I can see which Facebook friends are online and also what other Buy.com visitors are viewing. From barbells to Backpacks, all sorts of goodies were catching people’s attention.

But I got a link from the ShopTogether that I sent to my husband over Facebook. He and I both linked into it and it opened up a chat box that we could send IMs and even links and product images. It took me a few seconds to get used to it, but mostly because I haven’t IM’d in ages! But it was pretty easy. I found a few books I wanted and hubby suggested picking up a new backpack for my son. It was an easy, fun experience that I would do again. I wish more sites had this feature, it just rocks!

If Tweets are more your thing, you can also tweet from the product page. You can send a random tweet to everyone listening or you can personalize it to catch a certain friend’s attention

Shop together online with your friends and family at Buy.com! (And don’t forget to take advantage of Buy.com’s Back-to-School deals!)

And if you could shop with anyone online to help you make a decision ….virtually…who would it be? My go-to’s are my sister (for her style) and my husband (so I can do whatever want anyways but make him feel involved.)
