At ages 4.5 and 6, my boys already receive the LEGO Club magazine (FREE) and National Geographic Kids (thanks Mom). They LOVE getting these in the mail. And it encourages them to read. So a big plus there. And if they can’t get all the info themselves, their dad and I are there to help read the fine points to them.

So now onto Marvel Super Heroes Magazine. Every issue features:

• Aaction-packed comics with a never-ending cast of villains ready for battle
• Brain teasing puzzles
• Cool activities
• Cut-outs
• Posters

Issue #1 features the Avengers on the cover – Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America, Hulk and Iron Man. The pull-out poster is actually the cover of the magazine. So if you take off the poster, you are removing the cover. I wish the poster was actually in the middle to pull out. There is also comic about Thor entitled “If He Be Worthy”.

There is a section of the Daily Bugle re: The Avengers, Roster Changes. Editorial by J. Jonah Jameson and photographs by Peter Parker.

There are fun activities, where you have to use clues to find an imposter, crack a hidden message, find your way out of a maze and more.

Also included are more “interactive” pages. For example, Clip & Collect pages where you can learn about different heroes, their origins and their powers. Issue #1 features Black Widow and Hawkeye. And a Super Hero Smash Up page, where you can “mix up” some Marvel Super Heroes – how many combinations can you come up with?!

The Allergy Sufferers

My youngest son and I suffer from allergies. Blah! To alleviate our symptoms I use the following products and items:

1. Oreck UV Halo Vacuum – it kills and removes the following allergens – dust mites, bacteria, molds.

2. Clorox – to kill mold in the kitchen and bathroom.

3. BISSELL 2X Multi-Allergen Advanced Formula – This is my favorite cleaner to use with my Bissell steam cleaner, since it targets allergens like dust mite waste, pet and pollen allergen.

4. Honeywell Humidifier: Since I started using the Honeywell HEPAClean® 3-in-1 Tower Air Purifier 3 months ago, I noticed a decrease in nighttime sneezing and sniffles! I love it!

5. all Free & Clear: It’s been my favorite laundry detergent for … oh… somewhere between 4 – 6 years. Pretty much, ever since I had babies. That’s because it is free of dyes and perfumes – for both sensitive noses and skin! And even better, I just learned it removes 99 percent of the #1 spring allergen – grass and tree pollen.

None of the items really TREAT allergies, like medication will. They don’t prevent or mitigate your reaction to allergens. But if you can remove the allergens from your home and clothes, you may able to decrease the amount of allergy medication you normally take. For example, I personally stopped taking medication this year. I am taking my son to the pediatrician for additional allergy relief, though.

Now, I know allergy sufferers can be a little “scared” to venture outdoors. Imagine all the allergens you  might drag back into your safe haven! But with some help from the products above, you can be more comfortable. Yes, we do still sneeze and sniffle during allergy season, just a lot less! But when I visit OTHER houses who don’t use the same products, we are forced to take medication! It’s crazy, so I know it makes a difference.

Now, to remove allergens from blankets, towels, clothes and other washables – remember your all Free & Clear. According to a recent study, on a peak pollen day up to 7 million pollen grains can get trapped on a large t-shirt. But all Free & Clear can remove up to 99% of those allergens.

I like the ease of the liquid detergent over powder. To me it leaves clothes softer. Powder seems gritty and harsh to me. And all is just superb at getting clothes clean! One little bottle (depending on the size you buy) can do between 28 – 32 loads. So that is about a bottle a month for me! (With 2 boys, me working out and my husband working out – we have a lot of laundry!) I feel really good about how my clothes look once I pop them out of the dryer. They smell fresh and look clean! So, they moan and groan as I edge them into the bathroom to brush their teeth. One thing that usually motivates them into getting it done is to get the Sugar Bugs off their teeth. I came up with the idea, thanks to an app on their Leapster Explorer. And since they’ve actually “seen” Sugar Bugs on the game, they want them off their teeth.

We also tend to use power toothbrushes over manual ones. They just seem to let me brush longer with them. And when I hand over the toothbrush for them to try themselves, they brush more vigorously, as well.

I also talk them through it, so they know I am brushing their back teeth, the back of their teeth, the front of their teeth, their top teeth and so on. So hopefully when they brush on their own, they are aiming for those same areas!

As part of a good toothbrushing routine,  I am thrilled to see Star Wars Toothbrushes are on the market! Sunstar GUM launched these Star Wars toothbrushes in the spirit of the re-release of The Phantom Menace in 3D. There are manual Star Wars tooth brushes, as well as a line of Power and Lightsaber brushes. Here is what those power Star Wars toothbrushes look like:

The bristles oscillate, to cover more tooth area than the child will cover by manual brushing alone (in my opinion). They have a base on the bottom so you can stand them upright when not in use.
