I am so excited about this product! It is a portable, pint-sized scanner – that scans high-def images. Already well-known in school systems and Europe, the IRISPhoto 4 Portable Scanner is perfect for:

Bloggers: Face it, Bloggers need scanners. So often I want to tell a story about the past, but it’s not easy to include a photo because I’ve only been “digital” for 6 years. Anything older is only on film and in albums. Plus, when going to conferences you can scan business cards. And when reviewing products, you can scan tags and other small bits of paper information.

Memory Archivists: Family members who keep track of the family tree will LOVE this. They can visit family members, scan older photos from albums and frames and never have to take the photos from their homes.

Family Reunions: Get a hold of Aunt Mim’s precious photos without having to BORROW them for an extended period. Just scan and give them back.

High School Reunions: Scan photos when your bangs were high and your socks were scrunched.

Moms: Scan old photos of the kids that you took during the pre-digital age. And scan school photos, Santa photos, Easter Bunny photos with AMAZING clarity, without having to spend the money on that expensive digital copy.

Weddings or Bridal Showers: Scan photos of the couple-t0-be when they were kids or dating for a wedding slideshow.

The thing is, you probably don’t just fit in one category. You probably fit in a few of the categories above. I know my family does. My husband is the Family Tree person, keeping track of pictures and making books for family members of his older relatives. I am obviously the Mom, responsible for keeping and maintaining memories of my kids. My husband and I both blog. And he has had to scan on an old bulky scanner to do wedding slideshows in the past.

But already we’ve both used the IRISPhoto Portable Scanner and it’s just too easy and user friendly. If you’ve ever downloaded photos or videos from a camera, Flip recorder or other recording device, this will be a cinch.

SET-UP:
Set-up is amazingly easy. It comes with a USB cord and a program disc. It also comes with a swab cleaner to keep dust out of the scanning device and a photo sheet, which helps increase the resolution of the image you are scanning. You have to charge it before the first use, simply by plugging it into your computer for approximately 4 hours.

USE:
Once you are ready to use the IRISPhoto, you simply turn it on. Then you choose the image you want to scan. Remember, to increase the resolution use the photo envelope/sheet. Then you gently press the photo/paper into the scanning slot and it will feed itself the image and spit the photo out on the opposite side. It’s THAT easy. Once it goes through, it’s scanned.

RETRIEVAL:
To retrieve images, you attach the IRIS Photo to the computer with the USB cord. We chose to do it the easy way, which is simply go to COMPUTER then REMOVABLE DEVICES. You’ll see the IRIS there. Choose the folder with the images, you can view them right there on your screen. Then choose the images you want to save and put them in new or appropriate folders.

OUR USE:

I’ve been holding on to the IRISPhoto to test. I was thinking I’d unbury some old photo albums and scan some photos. But, then came a true need. My son just had his school photos taken. I ordered as economically as possible, but wanted a digital copy.

My husband was going to bring in the HUGE BULKY SCANNER than we keep in the garage.

But I said, “Use the IRIS!”

He was going to charge it – but I said, “I already charged it last week. It’s ready to use.”

So he grabbed the 4 x 6 photo I put on the fridge. I said, “Use the envelope.”

But he said, “I already scanned it.”

And this was the photo he scanned (to the right).

Awesome, right? And it took SECONDS. Once he scanned, he followed the retrieval instructions I put on the top of the post.
